Reinstate Capt. Crozier to USS Roosevelt, Navy Tells Esper

The decision now rests with Defense Secretary Mark Esper.

Senior Navy officials have recommended to Defense Secretary Mark Esper that Capt. Brett Crozier, the commander who was fired after warning that the crew of the coronavirus-stricken USS Theodore Roosevelt was in danger, be restored to command of the aircraft carrier. “Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday has presented recommendations to the Acting Secretary of the Navy James McPherson. Secretary McPherson is continuing discussions with Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. No final decisions have been made,” a Navy statement said. The decision now rests with Esper, who received the recommendation verbally and will wait to make a decision until he reviews the written report, according to a statement from top Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman. “The Navy’s inquiry covered a complex timeline of communications between Naval officers, as well as response efforts spanning a dozen time zones and multiple commands,” said one senior defense official who was not authorized to speak on the record during an ongoing and sensitive inquiry. “Although many in the media are focused on one aspect of the initial inquiry, it is in fact about more than one person.

The Secretary wants to ensure that the report is thorough and can stand up under the rightful scrutiny of Congress, the media, the families and the crew of the Theodore Roosevelt, and the American people.” The recommendation represents yet another dramatic turn in the saga surrounding the Roosevelt. Crozier’s removal by then-Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly earlier this month sparked a tumultuous series of events that culminated in Modly’s resignation. “[Esper]’s going into this with an open mind and he’s generally inclined to support Navy leadership and their positions,” Hoffman told reporters in a morning briefing, before the defense secretary had received the Navy’s recommendation.

Translation: SecDef Esper doesn't dare make such a decision without first clearing it with Commander Clorox.

Whatever Esper's decision is, he better get it in writing from Trump. And even then, it might not save him.

the man literally sacrificed his own career for his men/women.

THAT is a leader.

immature 12yo President will fire men of honor.

Republicans ****ed up in a major way.

Trump has proven to be the anti-Military president. Trump is more concerned with his polls than the men and women who serve under him. Pathetic excuse for a President and an even more pathetic excuse of a man. Trumpers have had to dig to new lows to support this piece of **** President.

Officers of his level should've worked it out before it reached a national level.

Crozier's commanding officer was onboard the Roosevelt at the time of the incident. They say the two weren't talking to each other, so Crozier sent his email that started this whole mess.

They could've done a lot better. We taxpayers pay them well.

Well, in reading that letter if that was all he was saying I would have ignored him also.

I basically would have told him something like "Great, you want everybody off. Come on back when you have a solution to actually make that happen."

I have no idea why so many people are worshiping this idiot. He did not offer a single suggestion, not a single improvement, they were tied up at a US Naval Base already and had been for days. Yet he demanded immediate actions that were simply not possible.

We are now over 3 weeks later, and there are still around 1,000 sailors still on the ship. The Navy has bought up every available hotel room on the island, and is frantically working to provide for all of the sailors who are now scattered all over the island. But funny, nobody talks about that at all. Nobody has ever offered a better solution than what was already being done.

The officer ethos across the armed forces is that, "The troops eat first."

Armed forces officers must take care of the troops ahead of themselves. This is true in every respect. This is what Capt. Crozier did, supported by his ship's officers, the chief medical officer, all the medical officers and staff. All the ship's senior officers wanted to sign the letter yet Crozier turned 'em away because only one officer needed to go down for the ship, its officers and its crew, and that is the captain.

Modly was instead busy taking care of Trump. Esper had one foot in a bucket of cold water and the other in his mouth.

As we've seen with Crozier's officers and crew, it so happens that when the officers take their place at the end of the chow line, the troops in front of 'em make sure there's enough left for them when they go through it. It's mutual and it serves both the force and the mission.

So it works both ways and it works out in the end. Esper the WP grad knows this. Esper also knows however the big fat guy loudmouth ahead of everybody in the chow line is the Commander in Chief. So it's time for the loudmouth fat guy to get shipped out. Leave the troops and their officers to themselves to set things right.

And a reversal of the reversal the investigation now supports the firing. You had to know that eventually politics would gain the upper hand.

I wonder how the preliminary investigation was so sure that he should be reinstated and then.........and then after suitable time the navy turned round and sided with the boss.

Smells bad.
