    2. Any time you talk about getting rid of any federal holiday there's going to be some constituency offended.

That said: there are occasionally discussions of making, say, Election Day a federal holiday as a means of encouraging more people to vote, but there are always economic considerations involved in adding a federal holiday to the roster.

So why not a trade? Combine Memorial Day and Veterans Day into one holiday.

Yes, veterans do perform honorable and noble service to the country and in some cases give their lives for that cause. But does there really need to be TWO federal holidays honoring veterans and their service?
As you know those are federal holidays and a lot if not a majority of companies do not observe those holidays so combining them and creating an election day holiday would accomplish nothing.

I've never been convinced Election Day needs to be a national holiday, either, because I suspect there aren't a lot of people who have difficulty voting because they can't get time off work.

Most polling places I have ever seen were open 0700-1900 ample time for all 3 shifts to vote.

In Mexico the bars are closed on election day. I suspect if that were true in the US Trump would have had fewer votes.

In addition, their is early access voting and absentee voting.

It is an excuse for a day off but it is not needed.

You can also use the absentee ballot if that is an issue.

That is how I voted the entire time I was on Active Duty. I was only stationed for 4 years at "home", the rest I was in various other areas of the country or world. There is absolutely nothing somebody from using the same system for themselves just because they do not want to physically go to the polls.

Many jurisdictions also have "early voting" up to a week or two before Election Day.

The ideal scenario will be online voting, when/if security concerns can be addressed.

Being able to vote is not an issue. Heck, they caught a guy who voted for Obama 70 times. In San Diego county in 2016 138% of the eligible voters voted. If you want to vote, you can vote. Even if you don't want to vote you can vote. Dead people have been voting in Chicago for over a hundred years.
