Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

Continuing with Japan SDF cadets for another post or two we see the Warriors of the National Defense Academy and the University of Tokyo athletic teams square off in the Japan Collegiate American Football League.

Yes, in Japan colleges have a national collegiate league that fields teams playing American Football. Given the video presents highlights of the cadets of the NDA vs the undergrads of the University of Tokyo, it's a match up only a few would want to miss.

The NDA principal team of American Football combines cadet players from all three cadet service brigades, Ground, Maritime, Air into one awesome assemblage of players. NDA team went at UT on the ground and in the air in this game played in the rain and mud where the cadet players from the Maritime brigade, the Ground brigade and the Air brigade seemed to blockade and deny the UT team access to its own endzone.

The highlight video of fewer than 3 minutes is very likely to be mercifully short for the University of Tokyo all civilian team of players and fans as the NDA combined cadet team blew 'em away 29-0. So the game was never in doubt ha as UT fumbled the opening kickoff.

Despite the contest not being particularly pretty given the fumbles, interceptions, touchbacks, sacks of the qb, head over heels slipping and sliding and blocked passes and so on, the one sided 29-0 score in favor of the NDA cadets leaves no dispute of who carried the inclement and very messy day. Congrats to both teams and to how they mucked their way through the mud and rain as a matter of course. The combined cadet team btw is in the solid black with the NDA letters across their shoulders in English. Soon however both teams were in solid black ha.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

At 10:29 this is the quickest video of the cadets of the Japan Ground Self Defense Force NDA executing combat training public exhibitions at the Army academy grounds. It is also the last one I'll present in this series.

Sorry for the delay in my continued posts (9 dayze since the most recent one above) but as I am in China Xi Jinping's fascist censors have been hammering every VPN used by anyone on the mainland whether you're Chinese or a foreign devil ha. While it's still possible to use a VPN on mainland CCP-PRC the trick is to access it abroad from a China IP, get it downloaded against all blocks and resistance, then get it installed against same. It's become quite the project to accomplish for each and all of us.

I finally recovered my Epic Privacy Browser with built in proxy and VPN which Xi's ferocious censors pounce on to prevent installation. So I am pleased to announce I've now become smarter than the PLA technology censors....which gives me even greater confidence in our cyber warfare guys at the Pentagon ha. If I can beat PLA cyber censoring and control technology just think of how efficiently US armed forces can dismember the PLA's technology to include of course their navy and air force. Bravo Zulu all around or so I'd say.

Cadets Combat Training Exhibition | National Defense Academy of Japan

Ground SDF Brigade | Opening Festival of Academic Year

    Hosted by Minister, Ground SDF

In this one the Minister of the Army finally succeeds in getting his beaming mug into the frame if only at the very end of the video ha. It's another rainy day so the minister and the review party are down on the ground under a basic tent.

You guys know the drill by now so I won't present the order of battle for the combat training exercise in its public exhibition. I wanted to take a few moments however to present the JGSDF Main Battle Tank Type 10, the Mitsubishi Hitomaru battle tank which is also known as the "Lightweight Heavy Hitter" because of its ability to appear suddenly and its Japanese developed powerful rounds.

The Main Battle Tank type 10 Mitsubishi Hitomaru has automatic loading, a classified composite body protection, it is equipped against anti-tank warfare and other contingencies, and was developed to have the capability of a C4I Command, Control, Communication and Computing system.

The fully loaded MBT Type 10 with its crew of 3 weighs 48 tones and travels up to 43 mph forward and backward. Its main armament is a 120 mm smoothbore gun with automatic loader. Secondary armament are the M2HB 12.7 mm machine gun and the Type 24, 7.62 mm machine gun. Japan GSDF went with the auto loader because it accepts the more powerful recoil round that has more propellant, faster velocity and better penetration. The auto loading eliminates the gun operator which enables space to accept the recoil. (Someone will likely argue about this but so what because disagreement is inevitable.)

Tokyo decided on the tank's offensive system, the Trophy in Operation Protective Edge, in 2014, for several reasons specific to Japan and its Self Defense Force. One of the leading reasons Tokyo opted not to have a Hard Kill APS was collateral damage to the area of personnel and or civilians in an Urban combat zone. Trophy is far more accurate and produces less direct collateral damage which is why SDF are developing it further with Israel for the Type 10.

The Type 10 MBT can deploy rapidly and easily to ambush enemy forces. Being a light MBT the Type 10 can easily get in the mountains or move around the huge cities where KE armour doesn't work due to the close in short distances. The Type 10 takes advantage of the difficulty of using a guided missile in confined spaces.

The Type 10 is also suited to deployment to South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and, not least of all, to the mainland China. The PLA continues to struggle to begin to match the Japanese Type 10 MBT which many call a medium tank due to its agility and punch. Indeed, the future of warfare is urban so this is what JSDF addresses with the Type 10 MBT.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

This is a public demonstration of the Japan Ground SDF Mitsubishi Hitomaru Main Battle Tank Type 10. The demo is held at Camp Fuji outside Tokyo on the public demonstration grounds. The MBT Type 10 maneuvers and fires on the flat surface only of the grounds. As the video of 6:55 duration progresses the number of tanks increases from 2 to 4 to 7 to finally 14. It's an interesting demo to include for reasons stated in the next two paragraphs.

Each of the two Japan Ground SDF Main Battle Tank -- the Type 10 MBT and the Type 90 MBT -- were developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in cooperation with German Krauss-Maffei and MaK tank manufacturers, and then with German Rheinmetall Rh-M-120 to enable the 120 mm smoothbore gun of each tank. So it's no coincidence the two operational Japanese MBT have a number of external similarities with the German Leopard 2 which is a sleek and subtle yet nasty machine.

Japan Ground SDF has 2400 of the Type 10 MBT with 400 additional tanks currently in production or booked. The Type 10 succeeded the Type 90 MBT in 2012. GSDF has 340 operational Type 90 MBT. The main role of the Type 10 is to support infantry with its firepower rather than to combat enemy tanks. The Type 10 which is designed for urban and mountainous warfare supplements the Type 90 tanks in combating enemy tanks in the field. It is not anticipated an invasion of the Japan islands by an enemy aggressor would include many tanks, at least not initially which is all that matters ha.

Public Demonstration in Japan of Mitsubishi Hitomaru Main Battle Tank Type 10

Camp Fuji Outside Tokyo | Part of an Annual Military Event

To Demonstrate Openly Japan Military Preparedness

Japan's Mitsubishi Type 10 Hitomaru advanced Main Battle Tank by Japan Steel Works boasts significant enhancements in its capability to respond to anti-tank warfare, mobile strikes, special operations force attacks, among various other contingencies.

The use of modular components significantly improves the side armor compared to the Type 90. The Commander's Panoramic Sight has been moved to the right and is located at a higher position than the Type 90, giving the commander a wide range of view. There is an option to the 120 mm gun for longer barrels of 50 and 55 calibers. The gun fires newly developed armor-piercing ammunition that is also compatible with all standard 120 mm NATO ammunition.

The most remarkable characteristic of the Type 10 tank lies in its C4I function (command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence). This can be incorporated into the JGSDF network to enable sharing of information among tanks, as well as connected to the infantry's outdoor computer network "Regiment Command Control System"(ReCS) to facilitate integrated operations with the infantry troops.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

November 11, 2018 was the 66th anniversary of the Japan National Defense Academy which holds annually a three day weekend festival to include the public demonstration of field training combat exercises conducted by selected cadets of the Ground Self Defense Force Brigade (Army). The field combat training exercise videos in scrolling are a part of the three day celebration that includes one day for each cadet brigade of the NDA: Ground, Maritime, Air.

66th Anniversary of Japan National Defense Academy | November 11, 2018

Pass in Review by Ground SDF Cadet Brigade | Review Received By Minister of GSDF

Plus Academy President, General Chief of Joint SDF Staff, General Chief of GSDF General Staff

Video begins with the NDA Band stepping off to pass in review at which time we see the "high grass" ha. The so called ''high grass' is where the cadet brigade commander and his brigade staff stand with the colors to march onto the track. Behind 'em are each BN cadet commander and staff plus BN colors of each of the 4 cadet battalions. There are 16 companies down below on the small roadways in 4 BN -- each BN commander and staff move onto the track ahead of the BN commanded as the BN 1st company rises up the ramp behind 'em to the field level. This is the same field as for the combat field training exhibitions in the videos we saw in scrolling.

As a reminder, the designated cadet BN numbers and color code:
    1 BN Red
    2 BN Blue
    3 BN Green
    4 BN Orange

Each company flag of each BN bears the number of the BN and the company. I mention this because we can see plainly the numbers on each cpy flag/colors. So the 11 indicates the 1 Bn 1st cpy, or the one-one. And so on for 12, 13, 14. Accordingly, the 21 indicates 2nd BN cpy #1 or the two-one BN and cpy. And so on, through to the 44, which is 4th BN, cpy #4 of the BN.

NDA cadets wear their rank on their sleeve in the class A dress uniform we see on this high occasion. Cadet officers commanding cadets bear a sword while staff officers wear the sidearm. The holstered sidearm belongs properly back along the side of the right butt so the Japan big armswing can be executed at the hip freely. All cadet officers are Year 4 Seniors who will graduate at the end of the academic year.

I include this reminder of staff positions, l-r:
    S-1 Adjutant: IT, Admin, Personnel
    S-2: Security and Intelligence
    S-3: Operations, Ordinance, Training
    S-4: Supply, Logistics, Materials.

While all cadet staff officers are of the identical rank, the S-3 cadet officer is the senior staff officer given Operations includes everything. By virtue of being senior staff officer, the S-3 is number 2 in command of the brigade or the battalion as there is no xo or dco as such. Most of this is very similar to the USA cadet way btw.

While the task of the 1 BN Red is to make an outstanding first impression on the observer, the academy likes to save the best for last in each cadet brigade. Early each year senior cadets and academy regular staff identify the new cadets who are best at marching and maneuvering, drill and ceremony. These cadets are placed in the 4 BN Orange. Their role in parades and ceremonies is to leave a lasting final impression.

All 16 companies of the 4 battalions do an excellent job of it out there. Yet companies 1, 2, 3 of the 4 BN Orange are expected to do more with more. And, ultimately, the 4 company of the 4 BN is expected to be the best. And they are the best. Kindly note that after the 44 passes the review platform, and on ready front when the band ends its drum rolls and returns to include wind instruments, the 44 transitions masterfully into a full stride and its signature armswing above the shoulder of the cadet in front of each of 'em. While the band impresses on its march off, we see the 44 execute brilliantly its right wheel turn off the track and up the exit ramp to complete the brigade pass in review. Kindly do pardon my OTT enthusiasm here but I get off on this stuff ha (so to speak of course).

    Music:
The chief cadet and his brigade staff of all-stars step off to the JSDF tune, Victory March.

After the pures of the colors pass the review platform the band transitions to the signature tune of the Ground SDF, the rather dramatic Battatoi Mache: Battalion March, which is a globally well known and acclaimed martial tune.

In the interest of interservice unity, each BN gets a different service tune to march to. While 1 BN Red marches to the Army signature tune of Battalion March, 2 BN Red gets the Maritime SDF signature tune of Man O'War March.

Then for battalions 3 Green and 4 Orange, the same tune is played, which is the Air SDF signature tune of Warriors in the Sky. This blending of service tunes is done, again, to promote a commonality among the cadets of the NDA three service brigades in the interest of minimizing interservice rivalry.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

This is my last of a consecutive series of postings focused exclusively on the cadets of Japan Self Defense Force academies senior and junior alike. The videos have focused on field combat training public exhibitions by the Ground SDF cadet brigade (Army) of the National Defense Academy. We've seen in scrolling several videos of field combat training exercises of the Prep Academy of the Ground SDF.

There are plenty of videos of JSDF cadet parades, marching and maneuver, ceremonies and the like. This one of the Ground SDF High Technical School cadets presents a unique view however of the pass in review on Saturday, September 29, 2019 which was of course a couple of Saturdays ago. The review was held to celebrate the new semester ha.

The unique view by the official video is from the review platform looking down on the 600+ high school academy cadets in their 9 companies of 3 battalions as they execute their eyes right. This is the only video of its kind I've seen anywhere of any cadet pass in review...and I can't think of one like it involving regular forces of any service or country. Indeed, while we're used to the long view on the ground of a column of companies marching with each approaching then passing in succession, this view focuses on the one unit at the review platform to give us the overview of the cadets in their single formation marching past.

Cadet Brigade Pass in Review by Japan Ground SDF Prep Academy | Saturday, September 29, 2019

Beginning of the New Semester | JGSDF High Technical School Academy of Engineering

Takayama Garrison of Yokosuka Naval Base South of Tokyo Bay

We have a direct view looking down on cadet faces which also informs us of how this prep academy of the Army organizes its cadet brigade. Noting the academy age group is 15 through 19, it goes in this way:

    1 BN Gold:
This BN consists primarily of the youngest cadets, age 15 and 16 with some 17 year old cadets, plus squad leaders who are aged 18 and 19. For all the modernism of Japan, the age hierarchy that is central to the East Asian region continues to be something of a factor in the society and in the armed forces in particular. Thus the groupings are predicated on one's age. We can see this group of very young cadets still plugging away as they continue to develop their marching skills at (right) shoulder arms with the characteristic large arc Japan martial armswing and the classic 30-inch stride (back of heel to forward toe).

    2 BN Red:
This BN is composed primarily of the more experienced cadets who have been around the proverbial block more than a few times ha. Ages are 17, 18, 19. The major factor in this grouping is that the academy wants a BN that shows its cadet preppies at their mature level. Legend has it these cadets do in fact open their eyes at eyes right ha, but that they close 'em right back again marching down the track and off the field. My sources tell me snoring while marching is strictly prohibited however.

    3 BN Blue:
These cadets are 18 and 19 years old with only a smattering of 17 year old cadets. So they're also bigger in general than the rifle battalion cadets that precede 'em. They carry a laptop case or a briefcase and this is true also of regular armed forces, many of which have a company or a battalion of the highest tech personnel.

3 BN Blue cadets are fully qualified as cadets of infantry, artillery, armor. They are however prepping for a high tech MOS in cyber, EW, IT, AI, nuclear, satellite and space and so on, to include military medical and law fields. So it's virtually impossible for a cadet to enter 3 BN Blue until the end of his second year. The reason is of course the cadet applicant to 3 BN must first establish a record of achievement and promise in these fields.

Cadet officers are Year 4 cadets who will graduate at the end of the academic year. Ninety percent of grads continue to the NDA and a career as Army officers. This academy is famous or notorious for not handing out rank and promotions or positions. Each company for instance has only one cadet officer and he is the company commander. BN staff consists of 3 cadets rather than the standard 4 of 'em...and so on. On graduation btw cadets must be proficient in English.

Cadet officers with the sword command cadets directly while cadet staff officers wear the sidearm. Brigade staff are the standard S-1 through S-4 with the S-3 cadet officer as senior staff and 2nd in command of the brigade. BN staff of 3 cadet officers are organized as Admin, Ops, Supply, with the Ops cadet officer as senior staff member and ex officio 2nd in command. On the morning of the Saturday ceremony I caught some Cadet Chat Room blather in English where the 17 year old cadet Demon Squad shot off that, "March in camouflage uniforms today. From a cuckoo cutter."

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

Top 10 Most Prestigious Military Academies in the World

The Best Military Schools and Academies

Graduation at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland USA.

Top Ten International Military Schools in the World 2018.

    10. SOUTH AFRICAN MILITARY ACADEMY, SALDANHA, SOUTH AFRICA
Almost every respected listing has 'em as #10.

    9. HELLENIC MILITARY ACADEMY, VARI, GREECE
Near or at #10 on most listings.

    8. GENERAL STAFF ACADEMY, MOSCOW, RUSSIA
Not a Bachelor's degree academy as it is for colonels and generals. Russia's Army's leadership and command problems occur most acutely in the lower ranks of officers. Which is why our captains and lieutenants will run circles around Russian company grade officers whether it's in Infantry, Artillery/Missiles, Armor. Yes, armor and for sure. Most of the Russian Army are one-year only conscripts.

    7. NATIONAL DEFENSE ACADEMY OF JAPAN, YOKOSUKA, JAPAN

Used to be a school of sciences and engineering with military education, discipline and training but now it is a recognized military academy despite its principal orientation to defense. And a nasty defense force it is. The cadets now get a very high caliber of curriculum instruction, training and preparation. For instance, each grad must continue to OCS for one year still. Further, each grad becomes the equivalent to the USA E-9 sergeant major/senior chief nco of service branch and is not eligible to become a 2LT/Ensign until at least 6 more months, if that soon afterward. In other words you really have to bust your ass to earn that butterbar.

    6. THE SPECIAL MILITARY SCHOOL OF SAINT-CYR, COETQUIDAN, FRANCE
Why is the Champs Elysee lined with trees? So the Germans can march in the shade. The French military is only recently getting beyond its historic fortification mentality.

    5. PLA NATIONAL DEFENSE UNIVERSITY, BEIJING, CHINA

It costs a PLA colonel a small fortune in bribes to pass through the doors into this university and the other school mentioned briefly. Well, a large fortune actually which they raise by selling military vehicles and equipment cheap to farmers and to individual military commanders in foreign countries such as Cambodia. Plus each applicant has to be accepted into the Party to qualify. PLA has the same problem the Russian Army has because its captains and lieutenants are mechanical men; most of the troops are simpletons, ie, can't get into the middle class of society. PLA commanders are trying to learn to fight like Americans do yet they're doing worse at it than our guys are. So there's hope for us yet.

    4. ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY SANDHURST, CAMBERLEY, UNITED KINGDOM
Ditching the baccalaureate and 4 year cadet program means any bloke who thinks he's a general can actually become one. Expect this program to go downhill fast.

    3. UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY, ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND
Annapolis was my escape from Washington when I worked in DC after my time in the Army in the Military District of Washington. Weekends and holidays I the bachelor fled often to the plush environment of small leisurely town of Annapolis and its waters, boats, wealth. So I got to know a lot of naval cadets and to party and drink iced tea with 'em ha. Most of 'em didn't like it however when I asked 'em the name of their home planet. These guys are definitely off the wall, luv 'em. While I was in the Old Guard of the Army at Ft. Myer I was assigned 4x to a (small) joint service team of officers from Washington to judge and score Academy parades and ceremonies so they always hated to see me coming. I'm sure these guys move around much better on ships than they do on land cause most of 'em can't march worth a damn.

    2. ROYAL AIR FORCE COLLEGE CRANWELL, SLEAFORD, UNITED KINGDOM
Some listings put these guys at #3 and USNA #2. It's consistent however.

    1. UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY, WEST POINT, NEW YORK
Beyond dispute. I've visited WP a half dozen times just not in recent decades. Each visit was official, either in Rotc or in the Old Guard. I participated in judging and scoring parades and the like here too. Sometimes they're brilliant and sometimes not so good on the famous Plain. They're on when it's a burial of a general officer in the cemetery such as Gen. Schwartzkopf (I saw it on video) but the parade each Saturday, ahem, needs improvement - still. WP btw continues to own command of the 3rd Infantry Regiment I was in, The Old Guard of the Army at Ft. Myer next to the Pentagon. That is, post WW II each and every colonel who's commanded 3 IR TOG is a USMA grad. No Rotc colonels have commanded TOG to date and I doubt any Rotc commissioned officer will ever command The Old Guard of the Army. It's strictly a USMA thingy.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

Dr. Ryosei Kokubun became 9th president of the National Defense Academy of Japan in 2012.

Not quite the salt and pepper haired guy we see on the review platform in post #394 izzit ha. The former law school dean has been a visiting scholar at: the Fairbanks Center for Japan Studies at Harvard, Beijing University, Taiwan University and is the author of 7 books on security issues to include 4 books in English, perhaps most notably Getting the Triangle Straight: Managing China-Japan-US Relations.

Very soon after assuming office Dr. Kokubun established the Institute for Advanced Studies (see below). An expert in military law, the NDA under Dr. Kokubun and his team have brought the Academy into virtually all of the top ten listings of national military academies. Its modal ranking globally given the NDA is primarily a defense oriented academy is 6th or 7th, which is notable. Its recently established schools and programs have propelled the NDA advance in its global ranking.

    NDA Main Administration Building

The recently established Graduate School of Security Studies offers a doctoral program. The NDA Department of Defense Sciences includes programs in National Defense Studies, Strategic Studies in addition to the traditional programs of Leadership and in Military History.

The NDA recent Program of Area Studies includes 14 countries and regions so that each cadet is required to study and research at least one foreign area. The Institute for Advanced Studies incorporated three previously separate centers: Center for Excellence in Liberal Arts, Center for Global Security, and Center for International Exchange. The Center for Global Security is designed in particular to produce innovative research by faculty and cadets on the emerging security challenges facing the world.

Each cadet brigade of NDA is governed by one of the three academy civilian vice presidents for Ground, Maritime, Air, respectively.

Cadets from many foreign countries study at the National Defense Academy of Japan. While all cadets at NDAJ must graduate fluent in English, foreign cadets who study at NDAJ are fluent in Japanese and in English.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

This post is a thread housekeeping post as it were. It focuses on the disposal of a couple of unnecessary things to the Salvation Army luv 'em ha.

That is, each India and Pakistan bitch and complain separately, constantly and endlessly that the precious academy of each is rarely if ever included in anyone's top ten listing of the best military academies of the world. Each of the rivals believes in its own right that it deserves inclusion among the very best military schools and academies globally. Not the academy of the other guy though and of course.

I myself have never posted anything to the thread and topic about either government's official national cadet academy and the cadets of each whether it's either India or Pakistan. Nor do I expect to post much more of anything further than this about either one. Perhaps something here or there, just not very much.

Indeed, while each the Indian National Defense Academy and the Pakistan separate military, naval and air academies respectively have much the same education and training as any academy listed in the top ten, each India and Pakistan is so self centered and locally obsessed with their neighbor that they're of a minor consequence to global security outside of their own place and locale. Neither do cadets of either country's academies get any closer to nuclear weapons than cadets do at the top ten academies or at any nuclear armed nation's armed forces academy, which is never.

The video immediately following of the NDA of India at least gives a good look at what military academy cadets everywhere do so it does have a high value in this respect. It's just that other governments cadet academies don't show much if anything of this kind of abandon all hope training video. So it is both informational to many people and revealing in a number of its specifics.

This vid is an official one of the Pakistan Army Academy in Abbotabad where as we recall the very dead shark Osama bin Laden lived under their nose for several years as I recall the absurd ridiculousness and criminality of it.

The vid skips along in blurbs of just about everything cadets do at almost any serious military academy anywhere in the world. It shows cadets doing some marching, jumping out of airplanes, doing amphibious assault training, playing basketball and so on. The vid covers a lot of ground quickly in a relatively short run.

Methinks it's a much better video than the standard one that says very nicely to come look at our lovely academy to see all about us and what our well scrubbed cadets do in their crisp uniforms and tailored shop overalls. The only challenge to watching it is probably listening to the voice singing in Arabic and the monotonous music played throughout it but hey, the audio does give the flavor of the thing despite the flavor not being vanilla. Plus the vid is quite current having been published in July.

Re: [W:383]Cadets in Training: America's Allies and Enemies Prepare

This might be something for child welfare professionals to look into ha. Then again maybe not where on Taiwan life is modern and free yet still Chinese.

Taiwan Kindergarten Children at the Albert Kindergarten School

Learn Army Physical Training and Drills in Suburban Taipei

Developed Jointly by the Principal and a Pediatrician

    News Feature Report Narrative Excerpt:

The Albert Kindergarten in the suburbs of the Taiwanese city of Taichung is no ordinary preschool. Apart from learning math and how to read and write, the students have to follow a training program that is based on Army drills and physical training. Indeed, ulike in normal schools, you won't find any sweets in this kindergarten, since sugary treats are strictly forbidden. Instead, the kids get a paste made of raw garlic which, according to Fong Yun-I, protects them from colds.

The nine-year old Yvonne Feng says she found it fun in the beginning, but, "after a while I got tired and wanted to quit the school, but my mum and dad insist that I continue the class." There has been criticism from Taiwanese scholars on the negative impact the military drills might have on the physical development of the children.

However, Principal Fong Yun-I insists the army-like teachings are exactly what today's children need. "From an early age, we make them used to bearing hardships, they learn self-discipline. When they face difficulties as adults, they will not give up easily. They will become a great new generation of Taiwanese." Fong Yun-I says her former students are now even taller than other kids who attended ordinary kindergarten schools.

So what are 9 year old children doing in kindergarten anyway, as quite a few of 'em are that are presented in the video. Throughout most of East Asia and Southeast Asia children enter primary / elementary school at age 7 mostly while some do it at age 6. That's at the government schools that we call public school. So it's strange but true that parents can pull their kid out of 2d grade or 3d grade for one year into a kindergarten such as this Army style kindergarten only school.

In Japan where they enter at 6 Prime Minister Abe easily got $7 billion bucks startup to make preschool a mandatory part of the national school system for everyone. Other countries of the region continue to have private preschool such as SK, Thailand, Taiwan among a very few others to have preschool.

Methinks anyway this Army style kindergarten isn't going to get very far even in the regimented Old World societies of the region. In Thailand all secondary students must become National Defense Scouts to wear a formal uniform or camo uniform twice a week to include going off to an Army camp to crawl around in the mud for an afternoon ha ha ha. We know well good training builds good character dunnit.

While we're taking a gander at some young people here are some more of our Russian high school cadets. These Russian cadets are secondary school age to include a graduation inside the Kremlin in the first video. In the second vid we go inside the prestigious Suvorov Military School to include ballroom dancing lessons for the boys as we see ballroom dancing in the first video as a part of graduation.

Graduates of Moscow cadet schools received their diplomas during the official ceremony held inside the Kremlin on Saturday. Cadets in the solid black uniforms are graduating from the prestigious Suvorov Military School for boys, grades 7-12.

After swearing allegiance to the Russian flag, girls and boys who have completed their secondary education at schools of the Russian Ministry of Defence sing, ballroom dance and play musical instruments.

Anton Sidorenko, who wants to be a military orchestra conductor, says that studying at the military school developed his personality.
"It has also built my character, courage and a sense of responsibility," he said.

Cadets are expecting the results of their state exams and after that will be able to be accepted to universities.
