NATO, not counting the U.S.A. who is staying out of this scenario, has about 500 nuclear weapons to Russia's approximately 6,000. Let's say Russia launched half of their nuclear weapons in order to leave enough in reserve for other threats. Obviously, in an anything goes war, Russia's nuclear weapons would devastate the European Union. How much damage could the European Union do if they said screw it, let's do as much damage as we can and launched the nukes they have and launched as many conventional bombing attacks as they could before they went down? Would it be a mutual destruction or would Russia survive?

They have enough to hit each Russian city more than once. Ensuring the destruction of the country.

The only way Russia would attack the EU in A situation in which nukes would be launched is when they were confident that no more than 10 nukes would be left for counter attack. If the 10 were small enough Russia as a country might survive.

Mad still holds

There would be no winner, both sides would be destroyed. Not to mention that if the Russians did this the US would without a doubt use theirs on Russia also, the world as we know it would end.

Doesn't sound so bad, who wouldn't want to play Fallout 5 in real life?

I call dibs on being the Brotherhoods first Elder.

This would not work for obvious reasons. And I will just state the most obvious.

Even not counting NATO, we have a long standing and firm mutual defense treaty with the UK. And I can not imagine that ever changing, short of the UK going completely insane, executing the Royal Family and every high ranking member of Government, and sinking into a completely insane totalitarian genocidal government.

So short of the return of the BUF and a descendent of Sir Oswald Mosley taking over the UK, I simply can not see this ever happening.

And now the second important part here. Much of the reason the EU maintains such a low number of nuclear weapons is because of NATO and the US. We have vowed to use our nukes if needed in the defense of NATO. If for some reason the US was to leave NATO, then you had better believe France, England, and at least half of the EU will start to increase their own nuclear stockpiles to make up for this loss.

Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, I would bet dollars to doughnuts that if the US was to either pull out of NATO or to revoke their Nuclear Sharing agreement at least half of those just listed would be nuclear powers in their own right within 2 years.
