Too stupid to serve

And never even mind the message ("Communism will win"), this boy's too dumb to serve.

From the Guardian:

A West Point cadet who wore a Che Guevara T-shirt to his graduation and posted a message online saying “communism will win” has been discharged from the US army.

The images Spenser Rapone posted on Twitter from his May 2016 West Point graduation were meant to shock: in one, he opens his dress uniform to expose a T-shirt with a red image of the socialist icon Che Guevara. In another, he raises his fist and flips over his cap to reveal the hand-scrawled message: “Communism will win.”

...An unrepentant Rapone summed up the fallout in a tweet on Monday that showed him extending a middle finger at a sign at the entrance to Fort Drum, accompanied by the words: “One final salute.”

Just how dumb is this guy? Dumb enough to keep the pics to himself after his 2017 graduation but then tweet them in support of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick...so he doesn't even understand the difference between free speech and communism.

The guy isn't stupid. He played the US Army! Buy doing this after his graduation he got out of the Army with a free Bachelors degree, all paid for by us. The little puke should have his degree revoked.

He may find that he will have to pay for that education now, or lose his degree.

Considering he left the Army with an OTH discharge, the Government can, and likely will recoup the cost of his education.....and the mark of an OTH discharge will leave a definite unfavorable mark on his DD 214 and future job prospects.

For sure! Wearing the uniform of this great nation is an honor. At least that is my opinion

Again we agree, that may have something to do with us both being old Sargent's.

They can not take his degree, it is his forever. A degree can only be revoked if it is discovered he cheated in order to get it, or used fraud.

However, they can and will recoup the cost of his schooling. When you get a college degree at the expense of the military (Academy or ROTC), you give them 6 years or you pay it back. And the BCD is going to seriously impact his ability to get work. No government contractor will hire him, nor will any but some local governments give him a job. And he is going to have to pay the government back for the cost of getting that degree.

Oh, I am sure that he is going to be making money for the next 3 years at least though. He already has speaking tours lined up with several prominent Leftest groups, and they are sure to be paying him something. But by 2020, he will have become yesterday's news, and most will not even care he exists anymore. Unless he goes the Manning route, and decides to run for public office.

And yea, at this time he would be a perfect candidate. I can see the posters already, "Manning-Rapone 2020".

Fraud, no intention to pay for his education through service, I wonder if they can file criminal fraud charges.

That is not fraud.

Fraud would be say providing a false high school diploma where none actually exists. Or in falsifying their grade records or having an instructor give them a passing grade for a class they did not take.

If you take something in return for something you never have any intention of paying that is fraud, plain and simple.

He may be dumb but he is not unintelligent if he was able to graduate from West Point. He probably just wanted out of the Army and figures they'll give up after awhile trying to make him pay for his education without completing his required service.

Disappointing that somebody like him was able to get into West Point though when there are so many deserving of an appointment who never get it.

Particularly when he was turned down the first time.

Too stupid to serve?

Didn't he already serve as an enlisted man? Didn't he already murder as an enlisted man?

Too damn conscientious to serve, would have been the better title.

He was already serving in the military when he accepted the appointment. So good luck making that claim stick.

That is prior service, it does not count towards their obligation to serve after graduation. If his intention was to get the education and then find a way out of fulfilling his obligation then he entered into a fraudulent contract. So, yes I they could force him to pay up or possibly be charged with fraud.

"If his intention was" is a mighty big IF.

If a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his arse, eh?

The guy had already served, so the thread title is pretty absurd.

I'm not sure that he considers getting a (better than free?) service academy education with no obligation to actually serve his active duty time being all that dumb.

While I think ill of his antics, I don't think the kid dumb. More than million in taxpayer scratch went into educating him. I put it up alongside graduating from a service academy, partying hard—drinking and driving—then crashing the car into the guard rail, causing so much harm to one's self, there's no possible way to serve in the military. The outcome is the same. More than a million in taxpayer scratch is spent on a service academy education. It's my gripe with football or basketball players going pro from the academies. Although strangely enough, I'm alright with West Point graduate baseball players going into the pros, but that's more ceremony and tradition—at the taxpayers' expense.

All told, I spent eleven years at West Point. Enough time to qualify smart people do dumb things, too.
