The US Navy’s new command puts Russia in the crosshairs

Of course not! After all, Russia's a kind, peace-loving nation that would never ever do anything like try to meddle with our own country's democratic elections - don't you remember how Trump has publicly and repeatedly taken the ex-KGB colonel's word over that of our nation's FBI/CIA/NSA? And don't you remember how just after a former Russian spy (and his daughter) were attacked on the soil of our closest ally with a nerve agent that is only made by the Russians, Trump congratulated Putin on his election and even invited him to the White House?

This is all because Trump knows that Putin and Russia only want peace and only want what's best for America. So why would you, as a person on the side of those elected Trump to office and strongly support him even now, even hint that Russia's some kind of "bully"? Haven't you been paying attention to how Trump believes that Russia is friendly to us and how he thinks they mean us no harm at all?

Thread about the Navy and Glen goes all TDS on us. Must be day ending in "y".

Yeah, silly me for thinking I could make a political point concerning a military issue on this website. I mean, what was I thinking, looking at the name of this website: "DebatePolitics.com" - gee, where could I possibly have gotten the idea that discussions on this website are expected to be political in nature????

While Trump has only pumped up his rhetoric against FBI, CIA, DoJ and the like Trump has shut up when it comes to the military and the armed forces. Trump knows that while he can abuse DoJ, the judiciary, the media, immigrants, football players and owners, Muslims among the dozens of groups in society Trump doesn't like, Trump is careful not to directly offend the generals and admirals. Trump gave McMaster a reasonably respectable sendoff and Trump continues to keep John Kelley right down the hall from the oval office. It may be that the military commanders would be the most alarmed group in the country if Trump fired Mueller, or Rosenstein; perhaps even AG Sessions.

]Earlier this year, the U.S. military said in a new national defense strategy that countering Russia, along with China, would be a priority, the latest sign of shifting priorities after more than a decade and a half of focusing on the fight against Islamist militants.

In presenting the new strategy, which will set priorities for the Pentagon for years to come, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis called China and Russia “revisionist powers” that “seek to create a world consistent with their authoritarian models.”

Russia has increased its naval patrols in the Baltic Sea, the North Atlantic and the Arctic, NATO officials say, although the size of its navy is smaller now than during the Cold War era.

Is this move really necessary? Some might even call it "provocative." In reality, it's simple prudence.

The Navy's jobs is to confront possible threats to US security wherever they arise. The possibility of a conventional war with Russia that would include protecting shipping in the North Atlantic is remote but not impossible. In that context, it makes sense to be prepared for any eventuality.

With an expanding defense budget, the move is not expected to put pressure on expenditures. And with other moves being made by the military in Europe, a clear signal is being sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the US will not sit idly by while he threatens the Baltic states and NATO.

Trump can't even think about firing Mattis. Don't provoke the commanders of the armed forces is the one thing no one has to hammer Trump about. Trump the wild radical knownothing is finely attuned to this reality. Russia as USA Enemy Number One is baked in at the Pentagon and Nato, and it has been so since before Trump was born.

What's happening is that when WE point out what Trump does that is obviously wrong (and/or illegal), instead of trying to disprove what we say, you simply dismiss it by calling it "partisan BS" and pretend that you're somehow not defending him. Guy, you're a lot more transparent than you seem to believe.

What's more, you're making a rank assumption by implying that I never publicly criticized Obama about Russia. There's a saying that would benefit you: "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence". Obama made a basic mistake and underestimated Russia. That being said, feel free to point out to me the president who didn't make a serious mistake while in office...because obviously, all do. The difference between presidents lay in the totality, the cumulative results of each president's administration...and in that view, the hard numbers show that Obama's administration was superior to those of the great majority of our other presidents. Sure, you can cherry-pick this or that statistic that looks bad, but in the aggregate, the largest and most important numbers show his administration was superior, especially given the economic and foriegn-policy s**t sandwich of epic proportions he inherited on day one, and which was made all the worse by the deliberate decision by the GOP to oppose everything, absolutely everything he supported even if they'd supported it before.

NOW, you've been so busy pointing out how I didn't specifically call out Obama's mistake on Russia six years ago...so how about YOU pointing out what Trump's doing wrong concerning Russia TODAY?

This is a prefect example of just how blinded you are by your partisanship. The post office called you out on had virtually nothing to do with Trump and all just your attacking all those on the right. Which is pretty much all you do. You were attacking those on the right for not seeing Russia as a threat while ignoring all those on the left who not very long ago laughed at the right for claiming that Russia was a threat.
I didn't call you attacking Trump partisan BS I called you ignoring the hypocrisy from the left and instead only attacking the right partisan BS. The reason you can't see that is because you are one of this board biggest political hacks.

I am not going to even address the majority of your middle paragraph because I really don't care about the opinion of a partisan hack when it comes to judging a president. Everyone who has read more then a post or two of yours knows just how little objectivity you have.

And to answer your final question in my opinion Trump is doing basically nothing right with regards to Russia and very little else at all. He is a crappy president

You didn't make a point. You just attacked the right for doing what the left was doing for the previous 8 years. It's pretty much all you do on this site. And we all know we are not going to find posts by you calling the left out for much of anything.
You seem to not realize that anyone has read more then a few of your posts knows your style all to we'll
