‘We don’t seem to be a priority’: Vet’s VA clinic room filled with trash, dirty medical tools

Army veteran Christopher Wilson's room at the
VA clinic in Salt Lake City

4/30/18

When American soldiers bathe in Iraq, where a grimy film coats every surface, they are reminded by bathroom signs not to ingest anything that comes from the tap. So when Christopher Wilson left the Army after two tours in Iraq and sought medical care for his service-related injury at the Department of Veterans Affairs, he expected a cleaner environment than what he encountered April 5 at a VA clinic in Salt Lake City. Wilson was shocked by what he found inside a clinic room during his appointment, he told local media: an overflowing trash can, medical instruments strewn about on the counter and a filthy sink. He snapped photos of what he saw. Those photos rocketed across social media Friday, prompting an apology from the hospital system’s chief of staff and triggering an investigation. “I figured that they would say, ‘Oh, this room is not clean,’ and take me somewhere else, but they just kind of blew past it, didn’t acknowledge it,” Wilson told CBS affiliate KVFS, adding he was at the clinic for treatment of his ankle. His father, Stephen Wilson, posted the pictures to Twitter on Friday, and described the environment as “unprofessional, unsanitary and disrespectful,” calling on President Trump to get involved.

And this after Trump nominated an unqualified, rude, drinking-on-the-job-pill-pusher as the next VA administrator.

Why does the Trump Administration hate veterens?

Yes because as we all know there were no problem with the VA till Trump took over.
The one good thing about your post though is that it tells everyone who reads it all they need to know about you. You are a pathetic partisan hack and it's not the veterans level of care that you are concerned about but only if you can attack Trump. Disgusting

You're pretty hackish yourself Trump boi. But most folks already know that.

PS. Now you get an idea of what it's like dealing with hard core Trumpster hacks like WCH, where alternative-facts are just fine and daily attacks on Liberals are de riguer.

Maybe Trump should nominate someone with real experience in managing a $1.8 billion a year department, rather than anyone who passes his "loyalty test".

Ya think? Don't bother.

What's pathetic is you think you are any better then people like that. You just proved your not.
Different sides of the same coin.

Trump started his public drive to improve the VA even before he began campaigning. It is now 1½ years into his term and the VA is still a floundering ****hole.

Obviously no plan for all those years despite the rhetoric. Maybe that sits well with you due to partisanship, but not here.

Keep trying to justify you BS. It's only making you look more pathetic.
You exposed yourself as the disgusting partisan hack that you are and now just keep digging your hole deeper. The best thing you can do would be to just run away.

And calling me a Trump fan boy and partisan is funny as I don't like Trump at all and think he is a crappy president and a horrible human being. But just keep trying with the deflections. Maybe one of them might work some day.

Why does the Trump Administration hate veterens?

Was this all rooms, or just one? All facilities or just one?

I love how one incident gets this much press when there is no proof it’s even a V.A. Hospital.

As if either had anything to do with it. How dumb.

Well would you really expect much more from a partisan hack like the op

Keep doubling down hack. I give a fat rat's ass what you think.

Of course you don't. The only thing you care about is attacking what you see as the other side. Truth, reality, or anything else really doesn't matter to much to you. You are the liberal version of the posters you complain about. Zero difference

This is very sad. I know people who have been to hospitals in Pakistan and United Emirates, and it doesn't look like that...

Why does the Trump Administration hate veterens?

1. Your characterization of Trump's nominee is rumor-mongering and a smear campaign.
2. What does that have to do with the issues in the VA? It may come as a shock to you but the VA sucked balls for all 8 years of Obama's terms so are you going to condemn him 8x as much as you're doing for Trump who's been in for a year?

Did you just P.S. yourself? Rofl.

Meanwhile during Obama's time we had things like Vets setting themselves on fire in VA parking lots because their care was so horrible but that was only 8 years. What could we expect Obama to accomplish in such a short amount of time while Trumps been in forever?

Holy **** this is ridiculous. This is a CAST ROOM. This is also a cast room at the end of what was a busy day. That people are trying to make an issue out of this AT ALL....****ing embarrassing.

Ive been going to that particular VA since 2003. They are slammed because they are being forced to take on more clients than they were ever allotted to take. Still...the primary care doctors there are fantastic. Surgical...we all have our VA horror stories but that also comes with being a VA that utilizes interns at nearby university in a training capacity as a trade-off for cost saving measures. Does the VA have problems? Sure. Is this picture an indicator of systemic problems? No.

The VA has had problems ever since I can remember. Usually it isn't the service one gets after they are in the system. That is pretty good. The problem is getting into the system that can take years. Being an old fart, I can't remember a president where a VA scandal didn't occur. It's the system which is usually flooded with vets and not enough staff and facilities to take care of them.

It isn't Trump or Obama or Bush or Bill Clinton on back. It's just the VA isn't a very big priority with every thing else going on in the world and at home. It always gets lost in the shuffle. You had this huge scandal about waiting lists and vets dying waiting to get into the system and get some care during Obama. All Hades broke loose for a couple of days. Then after the news media stopped reporting on it, it was back to normal with the same problems.

Fact is we the people would rather hear about and the news media report on Stormy Daniels than about the VA. Congress is the same way, while the media is harping on this or that VA scandal, there will be all sorts of bills proposed. As soon as the media drops the scandal and moves on to another one, the bills die a natural death. This has been happening for 50 plus years.

And I have personally been to hospitals in Pakistan that look much much worse then that. Not sure what your point is.

I have actually seen some pristine mobile hospitals in afghanistan that blew my mind. One was a mobile trailer pulled by a tuk tuk, another by a mule. the one pulled with a tuk tuk looked like an old graffitti'ed shipping container on the outside, but on the inside was perfectly clean with modern equipment. His entire rig was funded through local donations, russia, china, american charities etc. While on the military base they sometimes called in locals if it was a non life threatening disease local to that area that the german american and norwegion medics were unfamiliar with, If it was life threatening they were usually brought to a stable condition for airlift to germany.

Keep in mind these were mobile doctors with mobile equipment and operating rooms, selected by the local base by allied forces, even though the ones they had there from time to time were modern and clean, there were probably hundreds inbetween rejected by allied forces for being dirty or still using antique soviet medical equipment donated to them.

You should really visit a va sometime, they are under staffed and over loaded, and with afghanistan and iraq wars, many vets continue to flood va centers, to make it worse many vietnam vets who had avoided the va in recent years have been enrolling as well. The only cure is more va centers especially near military bases where the number of vets are higher, and funding to match that expansion, otherwise no choice to head the va will fix 15 pounds of vets stuffed in a 5 pound sack.
