US Air Force to Put Sensors on Allies? Satellites - Defense One

The move is intended to diversify the makeup of military spacecraft that circle the Earth, better protecting them from an enemy attack and persuading Russia and China to think twice before launching a war in space, service officials say.

“When you can complicate the decision-making of an adversary, particularly in crisis, you have have a greater deterrent effect because they have to think about consequences in different ways,” Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said Wednesday at the National Space Symposium, an annual gathering of more than 14,000 military and commercial space professionals.
Smart move, assets are launched earlier, and cooperation with allies.

humans are killing off their fellow humans here on planet Earth; why not kill off other human assets in space?

We as humans love war; just as Trump stated "wars are good & easy to win"

There is actually nothing wrong with war; Let US kill everyone and we will be much happier ............

JANFU:

A smart move for the US Military perhaps but maybe not so smart a move for cooperating nations, organisations and companies partnering with the US Military and hosting these military payloads.

Three things come to mind off the top of my head.

One is potential political and military entanglement in US military conflicts which would make the hosting entity a target for foreign economic or military action, which they otherwise would not be, if they did not host such packages. This could be dangerous for the hosting entity.

The second is who controls the satellite hosting the sensory package and who controls the information going to it or coming from it? If you host a sensory package, then you are ceding some or all control of your own satellite to a foreign state and its military and are thus reducing your property rights and freedom of action with respect to your own property. What happens if your country wants to discontinue the cooperation in the future? Can you just switch off the package or are you obliged to continue to host it even if you later learn there is good reason to discontinue such cooperation?

Third concern. What about legal liability for how the sensor package's information is used? Suppose your hosted sensory package is providing guidance information to cruise missiles or drones which kill people in a third-party state not at war with the USA. Is your country, organisation or company legally liable for the injuries (deaths, wounding and destruction of property) caused by the guidance information your satellite provided to those missiles and/or drones?

Cheers.
