Here's All The Details The Pentagon Just Released Regarding Its Missile Attack On Syria

Basic idea of the vectors of attack and the parties involved in the strike but is not representative of the number/types of platforms used.

April 14, 2018

Pentagon chief spokesperson Dana White insisted that "this operation does not represent a change in US policy" and was not an attempt to unseat Assad or become involved in the Syrian Civil War. U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie, the Director of the Joint Staff, said Syrian forces had been unable to have any “material interference” in the operation. He described the mission, which was coordinated so that the 105 total standoff weapons all hit their targets around 4 AM local time in Syria, as “precise, overwhelming, effective." Additional Pentagon details...

• 76 missiles struck the Barzah Research Center in Damascus, including 57 Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles (TLAM) and 19 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER) air-launched cruise missiles.
• 22 missiles impacted the chemical weapon storage facility west of Homs, including nine TLAMs - all from U.S. ships - eight Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles from UK aircraft, three Missile de Croisière Naval (MdCN) cruise missiles from French frigates, and two SCALP air-launched cruise missiles from French aircraft. Seven French SCALP missiles hit the associated bunker complex near the second target.
• Naval assets included the U.S. Navy's Virginia-class submarine USS John Warner, the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Monterey, and the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Higgins.
• The latter two ships engaged targets from the Red Sea, while John Warner was in the Mediterranean Sea. Higgins was supposedly in the Arabian Gulf. The French Aquitaine-class frigate Languedoc also took part in the operation from the Mediterranean.
• Air assets operated from bases throughout the region included US Air Force B-1B bombers, which fired all 19 JASSM-ER missiles, escorted by Air Force fighter jets. UK Tornado GR4 jet combat aircraft and French Rafale and Mirage 2000 multi-role fighter jets also took part. The UK and France committed unspecified escorting fighter jets. American defensive counter air packages were still flying sorties at the time of the briefing.
• Lieutenant General McKenzie said the Syrians attempted to shoot down incoming missiles with surface-to-air missiles using a "ballistic trajectory" and "without guidance.” Noting that they only really detected enemy SAM launches after the missiles hat hit. He added that those missiles “had to come down somewhere” and posed a danger to innocent bystanders.

It goes without saying that Syrian and Russian government spokespersons will advance different statistics/versions. These government narratives are not generally reliable.

My one concern is not about the strike, my concern is that it shows our tactical response.

I would have sent one missal here one there, a bomb strike here and there.

I understand we are trying to avoid a head on conflict with Russia and Iran ( Wich I believe would instantly make Iran a nuclear power, as Russia would make them so).

This needed to be done but I question how it was done, and I also do not 100% believe what the Pentagon released...

Well, Trump has surrounded himself with hawks recently. So, go figure.

And now, for something completely different, how Sputnik is reporting the strikes [emphasis is mine]:

Several hours after the strikes, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the majority of the missiles launched were intercepted by Syria's Air Defense Force, who shot down some 71 of the 103 cruise missiles detected. This included the interception of all 12 missiles launched at the Al-Dumyar airbase northeast of Damascus. Syrian media, for its part, reported that the military had destroyed 20 missiles over Damascus alone.

The Western attack, executed this morning at 4:00 am Syrian time on April 14, saw US Navy warships in the Red Sea and Air Force B-1B bombers and F-15 and F-16 aircraft rain dozens of ship and air-launched cruise missiles down on the Syrian capital of Damascus, an airbase outside the city, a so-called chemical weapons storage facility near Homs, and an equipment storage facility and command post, also near Homs. B1-Bs are typically armed with JASSM cruise missiles, which have a 450 kg warhead and a range of 370 km. US Navy warships launched Tomahawks, which have 450 kg warheads and an operational range of between 1,300 and 2,500 km.

Very interesting! I can't wait to see pics of all these CMs strewn all over Damascus. F-15s launching CMs. Really?

Lol. Like I stated above, Russia and Syria are not very reliable sources. The Syrian S-200 anti-air systems can't even shoot down IAF fighter jets much less Tomahawk cruise missiles.

My one concern is not about the strike, my concern is that it shows our tactical response.

The Russians were made aware of what was going to be struck, at what time zulu, and by what strike package.

The three Syrian targets were empty and I doubt any Syrians were killed or injured.

It was razzle-dazzle for show. Nothing has changed. The Syrians still have CW canisters, CW chemists, and barrel-bombs.

The Syrian defenses were apparently overwhelmed. Operating in unison, allied ships and aircraft all fired simultaneously, but from different launch directions.

19 AGM-158 JASSM missiles were launched (first time) from two B-1B bombers based out of Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. 6 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from the USS John Warner (SSGN) submarine in the Med. 30 Tomahawks were fired from the USS Monterey (CG) and the USS Laboon (DDG) fired 7 Tomahawks, both from the Red Sea. The USS Higgins (DDG) fired 23 Tomahawks from the North Arabian Gulf. 9 Tomahawks fired from the USS Donald Cook (DDG) in the Med. In addition, SCALP and Storm Shadow missiles were fired from French Rafale and British Tornado jets.

This is being touted by the Syrian government as a shot down US/UK/FR missiles.

Baloney. Those are old Russian AA-6 ACRID R-40 air-to-air missiles.

Well, Trump has surrounded himself with hawks recently. So, go figure.

You notice there wasn't a Russian battle line between our forces and Syria, this time?

Putin knows he isn't dealing with a *****, anymore. He also knows that the American Left wing would love to **** him up. Bad combo for Vlad.

Both sides like to brag and spin and fudge the numbers.

Allowing for that, it's likely that about half the missiles got to their target.
