A British sniper has killed a senior Isis fighter with a "one in a million" night-time shot from nearly a mile away, it has been claimed. The unnamed SAS marksman is said to have killed the terrorist with a "head shot" close to the Syrian border having been given a window of just 15 seconds. He is understood to be a sergeant with the SAS G-Squadron and a veteran of operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan, where he is said to have recorded as many as 100 kills. According to the Daily Star Sunday, he is believed to have used a US-made McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle as he targeted the fanatic from more than 1,500m away as he arrived at a safe house in a village. The trooper is reportedly part of a counter-terrorism drive in Iraq and Syria, which has been operating since the beginning of the year.

A source told the newspaper that the village in question was under Isis control making a more preferable "capture mission" impossible. The exact location has not been revealed. "The SAS team had hoped that the Isis commander would arrive during the day because a night shot was regarded as too dangerous," the source said. "But as evening approached the team realized that they were going to have to either abort or go for a night shot. The sniper said he wanted to take the shot and was given a 'go order'." The sniper had 15 seconds to take his shot as the extremist pulled up in a car. The source said the extremist was killed instantly after being shot in the back of the head. The Ministry of Defense declined to comment

If true, impressive. Very impressive.

Trained military snipers are ****ing amazing.

I am pretty sure this is a lie, when I look around what I see is that there has clearly been a decision taken to kill every DAESH fighter possible.

I wonder what they even felt the need to mention that. Who the **** actually cares?

Taking out leadership using snipers is probably one of the methods with the least amount of collateral damage, so I am all for it.

So true, Sniper>>>>>>Drone strike. The amount of civilian casualties from Drone strikes are absolutely horrific.

I always thought it was a waste of time to kill privates. They are just taking orders.

I trained for a couple weeks with the SAS. They had the same motto I have for hunting, ONE SHOT ONE KILL.

Those guys are good.

They also do the heavy lifting and step up to fill leadership positions.

When fighting an enemy, they all need to die.

Bless 'em if they see a person @ 1500 metres, looking for a rank badge seems a little over the top.

Miles

A unit of length equal to 1760 yards / previous from the interweb.

On the M-60 range we fired at the 'vee' in the berm that other shooters had fired at @ 400 metres when the target silhouette popped up

**** 'em.

They want to be captured? They need to surrender. I'm against torture, but have no problem with us killing them on their chosen field of battle, which is everywhere.

Orders to kill you. Just...what?

You think we would have won in WWII if we attempted to only shoot commanders? No, you kill every one of the enemy who isn't surrendering. That is what happens in humanity's worst invention.....

The Russians are still very good at this. I'd estimate they score a sniper kill every week in eastern Ukraine.
