Period uniforms, wheeled vehicles, a grand finale featuring a military air show — but no tanks. Pentagon officials have released details of what a military parade requested by President Donald Trump will include, according to a memo first reported by CNN.

The memo says the parade will coincide with the annual Washington, D.C., Veterans Day parade and focus on celebrating the contributions of U.S. military veterans, who will be marching from the White House to the Capitol, showcasing uniforms from wars of past eras.

They will be accompanied by wheeled vehicles, but no tanks to “minimize damage to local infrastructure.” The display of heavy military vehicles had been a part of Trump’s original vision for the parade.

Instead of spending $30 million to inflate Trump's already oversized ego, why not spend the money on improving health care at veteran's hospitals?

Damn, I was hoping to see Trump in a chariot, pulled by four white horses, with a slave whispering in his ear that "All glory is fleeting". He is supposed to bring "rocket man" back in an iron cage on a wagon, too.

Clearly the man has no sense of showmanship.

Maybe they'll shoot pyro.

Jesus Christ, $30 million...

My reaction exactly. Money to burn for Trump's ego. Give it to the VA home in Napa where that sick vet shot those 3 women. That's where the money is needed more.

But he's worried about the taxpayer......

Maybe by November, Kim Jung Un will have Trump in the gilded cage in his parade.........

This reminds me of Julius Caesar's triumphal parade into Rome in the HBO series 'Rome'. 100% ego gratification. Just keep that in mind when you pay your income taxes.

Who cares how much it costs?Remember how that jackass Obama and his wife each flew on seperate planes to Hawaii? The then jackass flew back to DC then back to Hawaii again.Trump can piss away as much money as he wants.

When you pay your taxes this year, are you happy that Trump spends as much time as he does at Mar-A-Lago, taking Air Force One to spend his time golfing in West Palm Beach?

When I pay my taxes this year I will remember how Trump saved us taxpayers 1.4 billion dollars on the Airforce 1 deal with Boeing.Besides,Trump is a billionaire. He is entitled to a certain standard of living.

Obama's Hawaii vacations totaled 35 million over 8 years. Trump and his family spent $147 million in the first 9 MONTHS. If that continues Trumps vacation expenses will be 1,470,000,000+ for 8 years. Obama was a bargain!!

Nice that you are OK with that.

Maybe he can make it up by skipping two weekends at Mar Lago.?? Camp David is there for his relaxation, though not quite UP to his requirements I hear.

I don't think there is a golf course at Camp David.

Trump just saved us 1.4 billion on the Boeing deal. We're even.Travel on Donald.

Except he didn't. Not according to most actual analysts for the cost of those planes, as well as Trump himself prior to being elected.

Just another lie from President Trump.

"On Tuesday, the White House claimed that the original cost estimate of the program was more than $5 billion, and so the fixed-price contract would save taxpayers more than $1.4 billion. But Trump himself had declared that the initial cost was about $4 billion, a figure that defense analysts agreed was about right. And the Air Force had already been working to reduce the cost of the program before Trump was elected."

Macron has invited Trump to his November 11th global security summit of 78 nations. That includes all of the G-20 countries which means the G-7 too.

Recall the G-7 had become the G-8 after it brought in Russia. However, the G-7 leaders kicked out Russia because of Ukraine. That put the G-7 back to the G-7 it had always been until it got pie-eyed and included Putin and His Russia.

Maybe Trump can take his parade to Paris too. Or Trump can have his parade in Washington which would mean passing up the global security summit Macron is organizing to occur in Paris. If Trump stays in Washington for the Veterans Day parade instead perhaps he can invite Putin to also review the parade. Give Putin something to do too while the global security summit occurs in Paris.

So let's see what signals Putin might send to Trump on this. We'll know what Putin wants by watching what Trump does.

Pentagon did not initiate the idea of this parade. Nor would Pentagon cook up such an idea. Never, because massing heavy armaments in a city parade for the sake of it is alien to U.S. civil-military relations and to the nature of the U.S. military and armed forces. The "working memo" Pentagon brass got from the SecDef office the other day scales down the Trump crackpot notion of surpassing the French Bastille Day parade.

It's not the first time Pentagon cut a Trump wildass notion off at the bone spurs....

Trump Literally Wanted A North Korea Style Military Parade At Inauguration Including Tanks And Missile Launchers

Donald Trump wanted to celebrate power like a dictator, but the military rejected his demands.

We’ve all seen how North Korea and Russia put on big flashy military parades in a desperate effort to get attention and brag about how tough they supposedly are. American presidents, however, have never really done that. Trump wanted to be the first.

Apparently, Trump and his team wanted tanks and missile launchers to roll down Pennsylvania Avenue as if to threaten his critics and political opponents while trying to convince everyone that he’s tough and doesn’t have small hands. Thankfully, our military responsibly rejected Trump’s idea in favor of giving him a rare military flyover instead.

We know Trump wanted the heavy armaments stuff in his inaugural parade. We know also Pentagon found an easy way to squelch the nutcase notion, i.e., Pentagon advised the Trump Inaugural Committee it would have to foot the bill. So yes, that ended that. On the spot. Now that Trump is Potus and CinC however the taxpayers will need to fund the costs. And this is at a time when U.S. armed forces are fighting conflicts in Asia and Africa while also keeping open the oceans and the skies.

Last time we did anything like this was when Harry Truman reviewed troops after Truman had closed out WW 2, which is also when the victorious troops came home. And exactly when Stalin caught a cold war.

It isn't a part of the VA. It's an NGO.

That money would be wasted for what? Trump's enormous ego? It should go instead to help the VA hospitals. That's a much better way to honor veterans.

Indeed.

Yet Trump wanted His Parade on July 4th which as everyone knows is a day of celebration, back yard barbecues, beer, boats, fireworks, small town and local city parades throughout the country. Trump drooling over a 4th of July parade had no thought of veterans or only a passing thought about some few veterans in a couple of open vehicles. The Trump Parade was dreamed up by Trump for Trump, about Trump, centered on Trump the grand marshal, ordered up by Trump to serve Trump and aggrandize Trump because Trump loves Trump.

The Pentagon however succeeded in pushing stongly for Veterans Day, November 11th which this year marks the centenial year of the armistice that ended World War I (aka; the Great European War). It's the day of all veterans past, present, future. It is a solemn day rather than a day of revelling, cheer, Trump grandiosity. When one says the Pentagon prevailed on Trump to have his parade on November 11th, that means SecDef Mattis, Gen. Joseph Dunford chairman JCS and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley. Each of 'em opposes a May Day kind of parade straight out of Red Square, as do all the JCS. SecDef Mattis wants an observance, not a celebration. Gen. Dunford wants the focus on veterans, not Trump and not tanks and missiles down Pennsylvania Avenue. The new Event Theme presented to Trump of "freedom" comes directly from Gen. Milley who says almost every day freedom is a gift that is always "very, very, very expensive," meaning lives and sacrifice for those who wore the uniform and their families.

Office of JCS and SecDef are carrying Trump's ball on this so we can thank 'em that they busted Trump's notion the Parade would outdo the Bastille Day celebration Trump made it a point to be invited to last year. We know Trump wanted a May Day kind of inaugural parade and we know JCS and SecDef knocked that back too. It is btw Gen. Milley who's become the public face of the JCS and who speaks most often for JCS, given Gen. Dunford is both a greatly respected combat commander and a quiet guy. So Gen. Milley from Special Ops and also the 10th Mountain Division command calls JCS "The Team." To say Team America gets it exactly. Gen. Milley is himself a combat commander who singes your eyebrows when he roars at you which is what he does to everyone every time. It's a standard reaction of people throughout Gen. Milley's career to say when you meet him you're convinced he came to break your neck. He sure as hell looks like that's exactly what he came for. The only defense against it is to be on the same side. So it's up to the other guy to be clear about it. And to be crystal clear about it very quickly.

Hopefully it is just a one-time thing for the centennial. I just don’t want it to become the new norm.

And so once again in mankind's history, the government fiddles as Rome burns.
