The Israeli military aircraft was shot down over the territory of Syria. Both pilots, however, managed to catapult and land safely in Israel and are now placed in a hospital.

Two Israeli planes were taken into the air to strike on positions held by pro-Iranian factions in response to the arrival of a drone (an unmanned aerial vehicle), that came to Israel from their side. Dron was intercepted by an Israeli helicopter.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware Assad was carrying out drone activity on the Israeli border.

One of the pilots who ejected seems to be hurt pretty badly. It'll be interesting to see what comes out about this incident.

Actually the plane crashed in Golan, so israel still has it, along with the syrian UAV

I am not sure who is telling the truth on where the drone was, however israel has pretty much violated syrias airspace for a long time, exploiting the fact syria was to weak to stop them due to a ongoing civil war. What this shows is that syria is regaining it's military control enough to fight back, if they are bold enough to shoot down an israeli jet, which no one has done since 1982, they may get bold enough to fight turkey as well. Much of the foreign expeditions there continue knowing assad can not divert military during a civil war, but now it looks like he regained enough ground to retaliate.

I don't think that the Syrian military has recently became bold enough to shoot down Israeli aircraft. Because they tried to do this always, as soon as these planes appeared in their airspace. Just until recently, their attempts were unsuccessful.

Also, I don't believe that the Syrian military capabilities have grown significantly in recent times. On the contrary, the blows of both Israeli and American military aviation pretty much undermine these opportunities.

Israel violated theirs and other airspaces for a while, but israeli jets are not immune to anti aircraft, they got around them through experienced fighters and intel of the airspace allowing them to avoid anti aircraft munitions entirely. However with the syrian civil war the syrian govt has been fighting numerous enemies at the same time, leaving the military unable to focus on aircraft in their airspace when isis, fsa al quaeda and all their branch off groups are posing a bigger threat. It was simply hubris by israel, thinking syria was too weak to do anything with their forces stretched thin.

In terms of power, syria has only gained power it lost, ie is returning to pre civil war levels, though one thing they have israel and turkey are scared of is experience, shia militias hezbollah the syrian army and the kurds between the civil war and the fights with islamic extremists have left those groups as battle hardened and experienced, and makes them among the most effective in the middle east, heck turkey is trying to take afrin from the kurds, they still have not managed weeks later as the kurds keep pushing back their advances.

This has to do with turkey israel and arab nations realizing in their bid to weaken their opposition they only made them stronger, and have weakened their own defenses as a side effect of their failure to overthrow assad.
