Will Trump and his followers- traitors call it FAKE news again? and "Vova Putler is not that bad, Vova needs a real friend ," etc.?

"
Britain's ability to respond to military threats from Russia will be "eroded" without further investment, the head of the Army has said.

Russian hostility could come sooner than expected and Britain must prepare to "fight the war we might have to fight",
General Sir Nick Carter added.

The speech - approved by Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson - comes amid speculation of potential defence cuts.

The warning comes after Russia has practised simulated attacks in Europe."

Ok I understand the reasoning for Britain to do this, but what on earth has this to do with trump and why would his supporters give a hoot? You are not making sense...............

That is somewhat misleading. Any conflict between Russia and NATO would be close to Russia, something of a force multiplier for them. Further, in such a conflict, it is unrealistic to expect other countries would not try to take advantage. Russia would be less likely to have to deal with with those countries, whereas we would. Lastly, we have commitments other than that that would tie up large numbers of troops and equipment.

so you dont see any "strange" connection between Trump and Putler?

Russia is now a threat. The US should treat it like one. - Washington Post

18 aug. 2016 - The next U.S. administration should recognize that the nature of the Putin regime precludes real partnership between the United States and Russia and vastly limits areas of cooperation. Increasing engagement will not change that — both George W. Bush and Barack Obama tried and failed — and even ..."

"Confronting China and Russia, not tackling terrorism,
is now America's ...
The Telegraph - Telegraph Online, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph - Telegraph › News

för 3 dagar sedan - Countering China and Russia is a bigger focus for US national security than defeating terrorism, the American administration announced yesterday. Donald Trump's new national defence strategy named “inter-state strategic competition” as its primary concern rather than jihadist attacks. It marks a tipping ..."

Military wants more money for bigger better toys. Tories have cut the Army by 20,000, Navy and air force by less, but still significant, to the point of barely being capable of maintaining out=r NATO commitment. Nobody's talking about the cyberwarfare being waged, just machinery. The interesting part is that the Defence Secretary is quietly supporting the generals. Previous PM's would have had their job, but May is too weak, and the incumbent has only just had his feet under his desk for two weeks anyway.

Long-neutral Sweden beefs up military defenses to face Russia threat ...

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/long-neutral-sweden-beefs-military-defenses-face-russia-threat

25 maj 2017 - Twelve years ago, Sweden demilitarized the strategic island of Gotland, deeming Russia a non-threat. But times have changed, and Sweden has been beefing up its defenses in the face of increasing Russian aggression. Special correspondent Malcolm Brabant reports.

Of course the Army Chief wants more money and needs a rationalization for the request, as the military has been vastly defunded over the last years.

The Thing is, the Conservatives have slashed spending on public services, the armed forces, The NHS, and just about everywhere else as part of their "austerity" policy Nobody knows where they spent it, but they've contrived to double the national debt while doing so.

And nobody knows if BREXIT will happen and if it does how much money will be available to spend on the military.....now is not the time to decide long term defense budgets.
