I like Revolver as a CCW, I know rounds rounds rounds.... But I'll take shot placement over 15 rounds any day. I've been a victim of a mugging, and been jumped a few times. It never happens from 20 feet away its always from behind or turning a corner within 5 feet. Semi Autos are great but I read a story a man was attacked from behind he was carrying groceries.

The perp put a knife to his back, he had a gun in his waistband, he spun around dropped his groceries and pulled his gun and fired, however he was to close and ended up out of breach. ( the gun didn't eject the spent round ) and therefore couldn't fire again. He said the bullet hit him somewhere near his shoulder. He explains after the gun didn't fire he was screwed and had to use his left hand to grab the perps knife hand so here he was holding the guys knife from stabbing him, and holding his weapon out of breach.

He goes on to say another perp came and they stabbed him 14 times in the stomach and lower legs, he said he would have died of blood loss if his neighbor didn't run out with a lamp cord he ripped off to tie off his artery. Had he had a Revolver none of this would have happened!

So I am NOT saying Revolvers don't have issues, but what say you?

I prefer a revolver. Reliability works for me, and it's what I grew up with. But for all people the best CCW is whatever you're comfortable with. Otherwise you will find excuses to not carry just this once.

Best CCW Weapon?

Whatever works best and the individual is most comfortable with.

My wife and I prefer Semi Automatics, my Daughter prefers her revolver.

Whatever works best for you, in your estimation. It's vital that you have confidence in that weapon and your ability to use it effectively. (I would note that in the encounter mentioned in the OP the assailant and the victim are less than five feet apart. A hand gun at such close distances may not be the most effective deterrent).

They also don't leave shell casings around. (plus if you miss, you might start him on fire!)

If you go the revolver route, I'd say a S&W 442.

.38 gives plenty of bang, don't let them fool ya.

semi, I'd go with a Glock 30S

10+1 of .45 ACP.

You need anything more than that, you're in the wrong fight.

I own a S&W .38 special 5 shot 2 inch barrel revolver with no exposed hammer to get snagged in pocket or purse.

It has only one lever (the trigger) to pull and it will NEVER jamb or fail to fire when loaded with high quality ammunition.

It is not going to win a war or contain rioters assaulting you so stay away from places where Democrat-Marxists gather to avoid the issue and stay safe.

Neither will it put a two inch grouping in a 100 yard target nor penetrate armor plate.

But at 5 to 10 feet where 99% of life-and-death assaults occur, its a very good friend to have.

I've always liked my S&W .40 cal. Just my personal preference.

642 here with CT lasergrips and .38+P and HKS speedloaders.
Also Kahr PM45 with .45+P (got the new 6 round mags)

Yeah, Chicago doesn't allow for laser sights. One of them "common sense gun laws" they got on the books. Must be afraid the dumbasses might actually hit their intended target instead of the 5 year old next'em.

(and it has a mag cap of 10 so no +1 in the chamber)

Well that just sucks.

So 10 round mag limits do not allow an additional round in the chamber?
Technically the gun is 9+1=10 total? No 10+1?

as long as the mag only holds 10 and you don't add the extra you're safe. (another common sense gun law)

As for the actual gun itself it's a 10+1 You can buy aftermarket 9rd mags and go 1+ if you want it flush on bottom.

I've got Pearce grip extenders on my 10 round mags. Doesn't add any capacity but gives you a place for your pinkie.

I am partial to my medieval replica Sparth Axe. Seventeen inches of curved and razor sharp steel in an elongated quarter-moon shape, securely attached to a four-foot long ash-wood handle. Of course I never really use it on people, really, but I can imagine swinging and stabbing with it in earnest, if I had been born 800 years earlier than I was.

Now back to the practical practioners of 21st Century self-defence!

Cheers.

Well a couple of things come to mind, if the semi fired but didn't eject the round more than likely the shooter 'glock wristed' the pistol. If the weapon fires it WILL eject the round if the shooter doesn't absorb some of the recoil by allowing the weapon to jump back. Not 'in battery' PREVENTS the semi from firing, ie digging the weapon into the target's body. The 7 P's come into play- proper prior practice prevents piss poor performance. ;)

Now there is a fighting stance that keeps the perp a yard away and keeps the pistol away from contact with the bad guy. Most defensive pistol classes teach it.

I'd also opine if the knife welding perp or perps are within 21 feet you will be stabbed, certainly if they are in close contact. Your revolver wouldn't stop the stab.

Revolvers do have a big flaw in their design, in order to fire the cylinder must rotate. In your friend's scenario the shooter could have gotten off the first shot but the perp could grab the pistol preventing the cylinder from rotating and allowing follow up shots. The amount of pressure needed to stop the rotation is surprisingly light- EMPTY your revolver and test that issue. The second perp can still stab your friend 14 times.

I would never say either the one yard close contact stance nor a revolver would prevent your friend from being stabbed multiple times so I'm not going the claim none of this would have happened. Best I'd say is better training and a bit more luck would have put the attackers down along side your buddy... :peace
