National Anthem 2017 Army - Navy Football Game 118th Edition

It’s a joke. Hillary Called America’s non beltway elites and fellow travelers “deplorables”, whereas her crowd kneels for the anthem.

I'm pretty definite that the "deplorables" referred to the ignorant alt-right idiots who saw Trump as a proper representative as he encouraged the Steve Bannons and David Dukes as respectable voters. Lumped in, are the other "conservative" Trump fans who chanted ignorantly right along side them. Trump turned around and accused the idea of a "deplorable" as meaning anybody who supported Trump period. Don't be so quick to fall in line.

And when it comes to the disrespect of kneeling during the National Anthem, I would remind you that it was Trump and his fans who laughed at Vietnam Veterans. These "deplorables" don't get to play the victim to Hillary's name calling. I would have voted for Satan himself after Trump's remarks about Vietnam Veterans. **** the deplorables and their imagined ideas of respect, especially those who once wore a uniform. Of course, then there is the matter of all those civilians in the crowds who stand at the National Anthem while swaying, talking to their friends, and taking a bite out of their hot dogs. But let's pretend that kneeling is offensive to respectful patriotism.

I misread the meaning of “Um...?!” Sorry to get you all fired up.

All it takes is for somebody to **** on a Vet and call it warm gravy in the name of patriotism to fire me up. Perhaps I exaggerated my response.

You didn't get the memo? Patriotism is now a conservative thing- it's been taken into the Republican Party and copyrighted.

That's the joke of it all in my twenty year career (1992-2012)...

- First there was Bill Clinton, who the GOP paraded around as having "never served" despite him being only one of fourteen Presidents that didn't serve in American history. As a young Marine, I bought into the propaganda, despised Clinton for it, and only later learned that I should have appreciated his second half (in terms of foreign policy and local economy).

- Then came George Bush, who was supported by Conservatives no matter the cost and despite having one the worst SECDEFs in our history. The Liberal criticized Bush at all costs while the GOP seized upon the opportunity to add to the idea that "Democrats are weak on Communism" and only Conservatives truly "support the troop." <--- This was not true at all. The result was a Left who could not make the proper arguments against a Right who didn't even bother to make the proper arguments because they used the troop argument to shrug. In the mean time, history saw the beginning of a generations long effort in the MENA that was dismissed in favor of the American slogans of the day. (...We are still living the history of a region wide effort to get past the colonial and imperial **** that made 9/11 a reality).

- Obama comes along and defeats a Vietnam Veteran possibly because of those idiotic arguments about Iraq (Obama promising to pull troops out, while McCain continued the "can't set a timeline" GOP slogan that actually defied the troop leadership's clear understanding that Bush had already officially set Obama's timeline). The Conservative base goes on to ignorantly blame Obama for the natural rise of IS (if you understand the correct Islamic history) while the Liberal base ignorantly blamed Bush's Iraq invasion for it all (which is false because it is not that simple at all).

- Trump comes along and denigrates McCain's military experience and the Conservative base either laughs or shrugs?!

No, they don't get the pull this "patriotism" trash anymore where I am concerned. Not only am I a veteran of the Somalia experience (1993 - my unit is actually mentioned in the movie Black Hawk Down), Caribbean humanitarian experience throughout the latter half of the 1990s, and combat veteran in two different wars in two different regions after 9/11 with eight confirmed kills (one I absolutely hate), but I am a historian of American Foreign Policy, which includes Cold War behaviors in Southeast Asia. Nobody, but a Vietnam Vet, who intimately understands the issue, gets to degenerate a Vietnam Vet. It really is that simple for me. And Conservatives across the nation (even Vets) declared that Trump, who has never served a damn thing in his life, rated to denigrate?

F....that.

Well written. Thanks for taking the time.
I have nothing to add, being unable to see the issues from your perspective, except to say I always considered Bill Clinton to be pretty conservative. And the idea that a liberal can't be a patriot is pretty bizarre, given the nature of liberalism as i understand it to be.

Why do you continue to lie about what Hillary actually said?
Then what exactly did she say?
“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?” Clinton said. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic—you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”
Hillary Clinton Transcript: '''Basket of Deplorables''' Comment | Time In other words, half of those that voted for President Trump are "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic". In her own words. And before you even try to slam me, I did not vote for him either. But I have always endorsed the truth over coprolite. Have fun trying to spin out of this one.

Go back and read the comment I responded to and tell me his claim is what she actually said. How does her (ill-advised) statement translate to “non beltway elites”?

I do not care, and could not care less. I was not supporting anything, simply refuting your claim.

However, she did indeed state that half of the Trump supporters were "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic".

How can you spin that to anything other than her stating half the country is racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, I have no idea.

Keep spinning though, please.

She didn’t say “half the country.” She said half of Trump’s supporters. That’s not spin, that’s reading the actual words she used. Try it sometime.

Furthermore, it's certainly not saying anyone who's not a "beltway elite" is racist, etc., as Chuckiechan claimed, and I called him on it and you started falsely accusing me of "spin."

OK, 1/4 of the country.

Do you believe 1/4 of the country is racist?

Eh, probably not too far off. It was a stupid thing for Hillary to say, since insulting the electorate rarely plays well (see Romney, Mitt), but it wasn't entirely inaccurate.

27% of the country is pretty much head-trauma levels of stupid. That's the baseline for just about any national-level politician's popularity.

However, this discussion isn't about what I, personally, believe regarding what percentage of America is racist. This is about misrepresenting what Hillary Clinton actually said.

So you believe over 1/4 of the US population is racist and stupid.

I think we have nothing more to discuss here. And people think that Republicans are radical and patronizing.

Again, this discussion has nothing to do with what I personally believe, although I do appreciate a good pivot.

Chuckie claimed that Hillary Clinton said that anyone who wasn't a "Beltway Elite" was a so-called "deplorable." I pointed out that wasn't remotely close to what she said. You then shifted the goalposts, attempting to claim Hillary said half the country was a "deplorable," which she also didn't say. Now, given that I've been proven unequivocally correct on what she actually said and meant, you're trying to make this about my personal views.

I accept your surrender, since you've obviously moved as far away as possible from the original topic of my post to Chuckie. Maybe you should think twice about butting in and trying to lie.
