Thoughts on the new army pistol to be

While I am not familiar with the Marine pistol qual I can tell you the Army one is a piss poor test to see if someone can actually use a pistol in an actual combat situation. It’s why we don’t even bother qualifying with a pistol. It’s simply a waste of time.

It's just like the rifle on the range. It's administrative and mostly about establishing confidence. But aside from the "qual" aspect of the weapon for score there is the Combat Pistol Program in garrison and while deployed forward....

And honestly we don’t do rifle quals either. Just not a very worthwhile test of the shooting we do. Plus when you shoot 2 or 3 times most every week if a guys shooting is not meeting the standard it is well known and addressed. That said I know that there is some good pistol training that takes place in the non SOF military. Unfortunately it just seems to be rather few and far between. But I do know it happens.

Most years when we have guys available we send a few guys from my unit to shoot in the 3 gun competition the Marines run here on Okie. While it’s not exactly combat oriented pistol shooting it’s good to see guys getting out of the slow aimed fire pistol shooting most of the military pistol shooting is geared toward. I was supposed to go last year before a free fall trip to Thailand came up. I hear from the guys who do it that it’s well run and a good time. Hopefully I will get to run one before I PCS out of here.

I grew up in Okinawa. Graduated High School at Kubasaki.
Nice. For the most part I like it here. Kind of crappy for training but good for the family and a nice change from the states.

That pic in my sig is from a jump last year on IE island. Pretty much straight west of Nago

It's crazy. I spent six years in Okinawa as a kid (Courtney and then Lester). Then after I enlisted I only went back for 6 months (Schwab).

Indeed...

Three six month stints in MCAS Futenema.

Loved walking to all the castle sites. Shuri, Nakagusuku, Urasoe.... Also Kakuza Ridge was heart-wrenching if you read all the plaques.

They said the same stuff about the M9 replacing the 1911, the new Sig 320, will do just fine.
Thats what I was thinking...I dont think there has been a weapons system change yet that hasnt been met with a certain element of disgruntlement.

Not just proven by police forces but also a bunch of military units. A number of our SOF units as well as foreign militaries use Glocks. The Army has issues me a Glock for close to a decade now and it has served me very well through every combat deployment.

Some people just can’t accept the fact that just because a 1911 had certain features doesn’t mean that those things are needed. Some simply believe the 1911 is the end all be all of a pistol and the further we get from that the worst off we are.

Amen to that. I suppose we outta go back to using single action Army revolvers carried with an empty chamber. ;)

Honestly I think there are a few posters on this board who would be down for that.
