I like it better when people wish me a happy veterans day than a happy memorial day.

I understand you reasoning. But to me just because we are remembering those that made the ultimate sacrifice doesn't mean we must be solemn, by enjoying the freedoms they preserved we are paying them homage, not just on the special day but year around.
