I has been reported that Bergdahl is finally going to trial after * years of delays.
What do you think the outcome will be and if found guilty, what should the punishment be?
His punishment should be going up to the family members of all the soldiers that died searching for his AWOL ass and tell them that he is pleading guilty, and that he is copping out of a death penalty. And that he will be able to sleep in a bed, eat three hot meals a day, and once his prison sentence is over his loved ones will be able to see him because men far braver than him died looking for him. The best punishment I can ever imagine for a coward who abandoned his post which caused people that called him a "brother" to die because Bergdahl was too cowardly to look for help.
The military justice system can run very slowly.
Let me preface that I am not familiar with all the details of the case, just the big picture story. My guess is he will be found guilty of something akin to desertion. I would normally be in favor of a sentence like 3 years or so. But in this case, unless some more nefarious motives are revealed, I wouldn't give him jail time. I only say that because he basically already served a sentence for his actions.
Give him a dishonorable discharge and show him the door.
My guess is that he might get a bad conduct discharge. But he may not even get that.Trump's comments won't get him a tough sentence.Wait and see.

The decision by the 31-year-old Idaho native leaves open whether he will return to captivity for years — this time in a U.S. prison — or receive a lesser sentence that reflects the time the Taliban held him under brutal conditions. He says he had been caged, kept in darkness, beaten and chained to a bed.
Did people die searching for him? That changes things for me big time. I initially posted this:
I deleted it when I saw your post. If people died searching for him that changes things for me.

As a retired E-8 Vietnam combat vet, anyone who goes awol in a combat theater should face a minimum of 20 years hard labor. But sadly today there is no such thing as hard labor in prison.
==Does it matter if it were 6 or 1? The point is his actions endangered members of his unit needlessly and he should pay a heavy price for his cowardly actions.
