Seven sailors missing...

Great scene but I just watched him in something last week were he pretty much did the same thing.

So why do you totally discount the idea of something like China either paid some people or that the Philippines are trying to earn a solid with the Chinese with a Mob Hit on our Navy??

On their way to teaching us who's boss around them parts?

death is a part of life

How many hours do I need to wait before I can comment that this is yet more evidence that the Navy is a Wreck and in fact all of our Military is a wreck because our leaders have failed us?

Cause Lord Knows I dont want to offend anyone with my words...such a crime that is these days, because we are stupid like that now.

We know we need to see the results of the investigation. What we know presently is that seven sailors dying in a peacetime collision is unforgivable and the damage to the ship means the USN captain rightfully gets sent to the career gallows.

Navy does a lot better when it is fired on. USN does in fact get the job done. This occurred on the watch of Potus Obama and SecDef Ashton Carter and the present CJCS Gen. Joe Dunford.

USS Nitze Destroys 3 Houthi Controlled Radar Sites in Retaliatory Strike

October 13, 2016

A Navy guided missile destroyer launched an attack against three radar sites in Yemen with Tomahawk cruise missiles in response to recent attacks on U.S. ships in the region.

USS Nitze (DDG-94) launched an unknown number of the Tomahawks against the installations along the Red Sea and north of the strait of Bab el-Mandeb.

The U.S. retaliatory strikes come as the guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG-87) fended off two sets of anti-ship cruise missile attacks. Mason fired a RIM-162 Evolved SeaSparrow Missile and two medium-range Standard Missile-2s surface-to-air missiles which destroyed in flight Houthi launched Chinese C-802 antiship missiles.

Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson said, “The team on USS Mason demonstrated initiative and toughness as they defended themselves and others against these unfounded attacks. All Americans should be proud of them."

We are.

Yet one can always complain. In the Army they still say it's every soldier's right to gripe. The 'principle' is no doubt true in USN and in every branch of service. It's obvious however that civilians gripe even more about it, to include especially many of the retired armed forces personnel. So some reasonable perspective is desirable from over and out there on the political right that dominates the armed forces active and retired.

USN has problems as do all services but USN is not A Problem.

So, what was the weather like at the time?
I was an 18 yr. old reserve on the DD700 for 2 weeks of the summer of 64. Being a lowly enlisted guy I got to stand bridge watches at times and enjoyed it, especially at night. If skies are clear and winds permit, the bridge watch is NOT behind a window. He is on the bridge wing, either port or starboard with another sailor doing the opposite side, and has a pair of binoculars. There is a 3rd sailor standing fantail watch at night, IIRC.
Radar is up and running, so electronics backs up human eyes. One night I spotted a red light in the sky just above the horizon and reported it to duty officer. He was concerned that it did not show up on radar. Turns out, it was a satellite, a bit too high for radar.
The Fitzgerald has much more modern equipment than the DD700. This should NOT have happened, barring really bad weather....
