I’ve just attended a hero’s funeral. Full military honors for a “Screamin’ Eagle.” Bronze Star and other decorations that many of you appreciate far more deeply than I can. After WWII ended, he spent a few years as a commercial artist before rejoining, this time as as part of the 82[SUP]nd[/SUP] Airborne. It didn’t go so well for him for awhile.;) Then he moved into counter-intelligence and served in Germany and retired and grew old.

Anyway, thanks and gratitude for all of you who have served or who are currently serving.

Me and some soldiers from my company took a trip today to bury a retired Army Master Sergeant who was born in 1930. Didn't catch his name, but his family seemed really happy to see us there for him.

I was honored to attend the funeral yesterday and am grateful for the reminder that freedom is never "free."

I take a bus trip every other year with my father and other WWII veterans to Washington DC to visit the WWII memorial. It is too sad to describe, how more and more seats are empty every trip. I know that someday the bus will be empty, and that breaks my heart.

It is my sincerest wish that more Americans would appreciate the gift they, and all other warriors, gave us this Memorial day.

Yes, one by one they are slipping away.
