Well it is now at 2 min 30 sec from the end as it just gained 30 seconds after something Trump said! Cool!

"Doomsday Clock ticks closer to midnight" will play after this ad - 00:17

Spicer: Trump's border wall to be paid for with 20 percent import tax

Trump, Putin cited in doomsday warning
Comments by US President Donald Trump and a "darkening global security landscape" have made the world less safe, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists warned Thursday, moving its symbolic "Doomsday Clock" 30 seconds closer to midnight.

The clock -- which serves as a metaphor for how close humanity is to destroying the planet -- was last changed in 2015, from five to three minutes to midnight.

It is now set at two and a half minutes to midnight.

The decision to move the clock or not is led by a group of scientists and intellectuals, including 15 Nobel laureates.

The minute-hand on the clock was moved amid concerns about "a rise in strident nationalism worldwide, President Donald Trump's comments on nuclear arms and climate issues, a darkening global security landscape that is colored by increasingly sophisticated technology, and a growing disregard for scientific expertise," the group said in a statement.

The Doomsday Clock was created in 1947. It has changed 19 times since then, ranging from two minutes to midnight in 1953 to 17 minutes before midnight in 1991.

"Never before has the Bulletin decided to advance the clock largely because of the statements of a single person," two scientists at the Bulletin, Lawrence Krauss and David Titley, said in an opinion piece published by The New York Times.

"But when that person is the new president of the United States, his words matter

Please note that between 2012 and 2015 the Doomsday clock moved closer to "Doomsday" by (Shocking! ) a full 3 MINUTES. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock

Who was President then, I wonder.... :coffeepap:

Yep, I am really concerned about a metaphorical symbolic clock. Not really.

What an absolute joke of an answer.

Look for an answer and we get a lack of effort to support or change global climate change around the world as the cause of the 3 minute shift. Ending with trump denying climate change.

I looked and saw the president then in charge speaking out and doing things to help stop climate change. But unfortunately it was the global effort to deny climate change that brought about the three minutes not just one american president. At least not up till now when with a single hand trump manages to move the clock forward.

How amusing that even this lame attempt to make trump look less an idiot just ends up making him look more an idiot.

No. :no

The point is that this was a B/S POLITICAL statement issued on the sixth day after Mr. Trump was elected.

They are saying Trump's statement is the threat. Basically, a few words and the world is 30 seconds closer to extinction. :doh

On the other hand, your argument is that President Obama was working against climate change...and yet still twice during his administration the clock moved for a 3 minute total toward "doomsday." Not HIS fault of course, it was everyone else who argued against the climate change theory. He just couldn't use all the power and influence of his office to effect necessary change.

(Note: I personally believe in climate change because I have seen the changes over the past six decades).

There is no "doomsday clock" actually ticking time to doomsday.

This is, and has always been public theater on the part of those involved seeking both attention and validation form other who choose to take their political opinions more seriously based on an appeal to (false) authority. I don't consider their "opinion" any more valid than anyone else's, including my own.

IMO, I have yet to see any truth to all the SJW Alt-Left attempts to undermine his programs before they even see whether there is anything to actually worry about.

Too many Chicken-Little's running around screaming the sky is falling...not even a sign of bad weather in the skies. :coffeepap:

i am sure everyone knows this clock has symbolic value only, and if any do not then they probably do not have an opinion worth listening to. It is more an amusement that the right tend to want to point this out as if worried the left are going to take it any more seriously than it deserves.

And no, apart from the fact that I was not putting up any argument about obama. there is the point that the clock had gone up three minutes despite his efforts. Where as all trump needed do was open his mouth and the clock moves another few seconds.

It was also more an amusement at your own statement of "Who was President then, I wonder". Especially considering that clock moved forward because of climate change and now you have a denier as a leader. Where as the last president at least made an attempt to curb climate change.

What you seem to not understand here is that this is not about doing a chicken little impersonation because you hired an idiot to rule your country. It is more a case of the world getting just one more example of how big an idiot you hired to tell you what to do.
It is more about how laughable it makes him and therefore the rest of you americans, look once again.

I really do not think trump is actually bright enough to bring around the end of the world. He is just stupid enough to make it look possible. With the unfortunate consequence that that the rest of america gets to look like an idiot as well.

Your worry should not be that the sky is falling, your worry should be that the audience is laughing at you, not with you. And by you i mean america.

Remember, the clock also moved "alarmingly" when Reagan was President.

The only President to outlaw entire categories of nukes, and who tried to propose to the Soviet Union a complete and utter nuclear disarmament of all nuclear weapons on both sides.

And the changes in the last 10 years? In relation to climate change of all things.

Stupid political posturing, and nothing else.

Yes, yes we know. The sky is falling...

Another Trump is president, WW3 is around the corner and we're all going to die thread.

Well if its been around as long as that, they could have at least upgraded to a digital clock.

It's more dramatic this way when the old hippie takes off his tie-die to wear a suit so he can change this giant analog clock.

The so called "Doom's Day Clock" is an overly politicized joke.

This seems to be a convenient distraction to blame Trump for something or for that matter any republican president.
The media loves it. Oh my gosh the doomsday clock moved closer to world destruction.

As middle American yawns and goes about taking care of business.
