[Illinois] I don’t know about you guys, but I’m liking JB Pritzker’s style.

I saw a poll about which government people trusted, local, state or federal

Federal was the lowest at 45%, local was like 60%, and state was like 75%.

It's a good thing our states are so powerful in America, they can pick up the slack if they need to.

JB has been handling this crisis very well.

And he’s practical, too!

I was involved in his first political outing, when he was running for the 9th (CD) back in the late 90's for Sydney Yates north suburban seat (won by Jan Shackowsky).

My God, he was seen as an absolute naive buffoon. The coalition around him was filled with political hustlers that took his money and laughed behind his back. It was pretty disgusting to see, and it was due to J.B. knowing nothing at all about politics besides that he had a lot of money and wanted to be in the game. The rough & tough streetwise old line Chi-town operators opportunistically saw him as a naive little rich boy, and took advantage of him without ever intending to deliver the goods. Consequently, his CD run was an abysmal failure.

I left that scene and the whole game immediately after and never gave J.B. a second thought, figuring he got used & abused and would simply disappear from the annals of political history.

Wow, was I wrong! Yeah, he learned, and eventually he succeeded. And he seems to be doing a great job. It's amazing the growth he's had over two decades, and the change in his personality. He always seemed like a decent guy from the first day I met him, but I never imagined he would ever develop the toughness, shrewdness, and political instincts required to prevail in Chicago politics. Good for him. Now, I kinda' wish I hung around!

I’ll have to test that theory out.

I’ll get back to you in a couple weeks.

Well! J.B.'s looking better to me all the time!

Moments ago during his press conference, he was asked about hospital supplies like masks, etc. He shocked me by replying that their general emergency preparedness plan call for stockpiling items such as hospital supplies, which they did as usual recourse. So for now, he thinks they're good!

Huh? I was amazed. Literally, amazed.

I was especially attune with his reply, because literally minutes before was Mike Pence's reply to the same question at the just prior Trump press conference:

"I am pleased to report to the President today that HHS just placed an order for hundreds of millions of N95 masks made available to health care providers across the country," Pence said.

[unfortunately the above quote is from the CNN live-updates thread, and it has no static link]

Notice one team having preparatory stockpiled for emergency preparedness, and the other team is "proud to announce" they are "ordering" masks! Geezus Krist!

I enjoyed J.B. calling out Trump about O'Hare.

He was right too. That was FUBAR.

I believe Trump is vulnerable to gubernatorial criticism at this point. There's not much he can do if (rightly) criticized. If Trump argues back, he draws attention to the negative aspects of the disaster unfolding around him - untold numbers that cannot be denied. If he tries to belittle & attack the governors, he has to deal with the optics of screwing with people as disaster & death unfolds around them. I don't think Trump can do much to fight back, here. He's in a no-win.

Trump placed himself in a box. It's obvious he lied, stonewalled Congress, and dragged his feet about implementing coronavirus measures.

Trump is dangerous. Unless a miracle happens, I think he himself ruined whatever odds he had in November.

The self congratulatory attitude about ‘ordering’ something that should have been stockpiled in January is really laughable.

Hey- I just ordered twenty flux capacitors and ten Deloreans to go bs k in time six months and prepare for this pandemic correctly! I’m doing a great job! Tremendous! Many people are saying so!

That's why I posted it. I watched them congratulate themselves for freaking ordering them! WTF? That's the best of the good news? Then J.B. comes on and talks about "emergency preparedness", "stock piling", and "we're good". And I was like,

"What the Fudge, way to go!"

Actually, no - we can't count Trump out in November.

He lost his election story, that being the economy vs socialism. That's gone. But now, he's pivoted to,

"saving the country from the terrible system he inherited"

And his supporters will be all in on it.

I know, but I find it hard to believe educated Indie's will swallow that load of Trump cum.

Well his upside-down point differential between Presidential approval and disapproval closed by a point the last week or so, indicating he is doing slightly better in that regard. No idea if it's correlatory, though.

Wait till the bodies start stacking up and no one is allowed to have funerals.

Trump has no fault in the Chinese virus. The left just hate him so much they would vote for a mad Chinese scientist if he was a Democrat. The looney left are pathetic.

I can think of at least one poster who is much more pathetic.

Speaking as a Democrat and living in Baltimore...I've been supportive of our Republican governor Larry Hogan during this. I think his surviving cancer while in office has given him a perspective other politicians from both sides lack. He has been making efforts to make the right calls as much as possible: he sends out his AG's to see if what he wants to do is legal, then has another team to tell if its realistic and then that team and others get together to best implement the various polices/orders. He's worked WITH the state assembly to get the proper aid packages out, to create more hospital beds and to slowly ratchet down socials gatherings and certain businesses. He has communicated those orders clearly and concisely. We here in Maryland, and especially Baltimore, feel that there will be a shelter in place order coming soon....we just feel a little bit better prepared for it.

Don't get me wrong; not everything he's done with this is perfect, but at least the effort behind all he is doing is 110% and as informed as much as he can be before making a call. I trust Hogan far more readily than I will ever trust our president. And remember: I am a Democrat speaking about a Republican governor.

Did you accidentally write a Trump analogy? :2razz:

Actually, yeah I can see a fair amount of analogy there. Though I'd have to retract the line,

"he seemed like a nice guy"

Time to decentralize and break this country up into city-states.

What growth have we seen in Trump? He shows no leadership skills, takes no responsibility, and deflects blame.

There appears to be an increase in those who approve of Trump's handling of the virus pandemic. Below are three pretty recent articles, 2 from leftist rags that still admit the increase in approval of Trump's handling of the situation is real. One of those rags, Newsweek, points out this increase isn't supported by those on social media in which I would include forums like this one where everyday is a TRASH TRUMP DAY 24/7. But apparently the majority of people approve of his handling of the crisis. At 55% approval it is obvious that not just his supporters approve but there must be Democrats and Independents as well.

Trump approval jumps 4% amid growing confidence in his handling of coronavirus crisis: Poll - Washington Times

If 55% of Americans Are Okay With How Trump Is Handling Coronavirus Why Are So Many People Online In a Rage?

Yes, I've noticed he recently did incur a slight closing of his upside down approvals, when he quite deceiving the American people and appeared to try to address the problem rather than dismiss it as a "Democratic Hoax".

The 'when' is very important. Because he blew the period of domestic containment. Too little, too late. And now, we suffer due to his mistakes & narcissistic arrogance, likely never to put the genie back in the bottle. We are paying the price that many of us, including myself, warned you about.
substantively be trying to address the problem.
