Illinois #1 "Least Tax Friendly State"

Personal finance publication Kiplinger has ranked all U.S. states to determine which is the most, and the least, tax-friendly, based on the tax burden placed on residents. According to the publication, Wyoming is the most tax-friendly. Illinois takes the bottom spot least tax-friendly, primarily due to the property tax burden.

The stateís 4.95% flat income tax rate actually isnít that high when compared to other states, but other taxes are a doozy. For example, property taxes in Illinois are the second-highest in the nation.

Sales taxes are high, too. In some municipalities, combined state and local sales taxes exceed 10%.

Then of course there is the rise in the state's gas tax that was recently passed.

Democrats never met a tax they didn't like. Ironic too, since Governor Pricker committed property tax fraud.

Just let them tax the rich then. It's not that hard.

And when rich say "to Hell with this" and leave? What then?

No, but they certainly do from states. What incentive would they have to remain in Illinois? If Washington started a massive sales tax (which mainly affects lower income earners) what would incentivize you to remain in Washington if you could just as easily move to Oregon where they have no sales tax?
