Wow- the IL legislature/Pritzker sure were productive for the 5/31 deadline!

(The deadline is that any law passed by 5/31 can go into effect 1/1/2020).

Sports betting will not only be legal, but also easily available.

Sounds like you’ll be able to be on games at lottery locations (!), albiet parlay bets only, but also will allow betting at stadiums (Soldier Field, UC) and casinos. Not sure if baseball will allow this.

Also, more casinos have been approved, including one that is four times bigger than any other in IL (4000 gaming positions vs 1200 now), casinos at the horse tracks (1200 positions), and...slot machines at O’Hare and Midway.

Might not be a bad thing.

Better than trying to control the uncontrollable. I hope the state's cut of the profits goes somewhere useful.

Trying to get some more money, it seems. Chicago is always looking to get a cut. That's why they're looking to legalize recreational pot.

This thing was the only smart thing these monkeybrains did. Everything else was "Tax Tax Tax":
Plastic bag tax
Increased the gas tax
The questionable graduated tax
The increase in FOID renewal fee (that's a tax on gun owners. Let's be honest)

Kinda ironic that Governor Prickster is supporting increased taxes, since he got busted for not paying his fair share (removed toilets from his mansion = lower property value = lower property taxes paid).

Chicago is always looking to get a cut.

And it will get a cut alright. No doubt they'll get a large percentage of it while we Downstaters see somewhere in between "peanuts" and "squat".

Love the people who whine about Illinois financial situation incessantly, and then, when steps are taken to fix the situation, the whine turns into whining about taxes.

The plastic bag tax is not for revenue- its to cut bag use.
The gas tax will pay for infrastructure.
The graduated tax is basically not going to affect 95% of people.
The FOID fee pays for administration. I dont have the desire to subsidize gun owners any more than I do now.

Threegoofs you are from Illinois like me, you can't seriously believe that the gas tax will actually be used to pay for infrastructure.

Oh and OP, you missed one bit of productivity, the legislature "accidentally" gave itself a raise! #can'tmakethisup

Bull****. They're to pay for the $1600 raise the State Legislature just voted for themselves.

It’s pretty small change as far as an expense, and they havent had a pay increase in about a decade.

Since they are actually going to be productive now, as opposed to when Rauner was blocking everything, a minimal raise seems reasonable.

You gotta hate whiners who have no solutions and cry about taxes all the time... they’re usually the first ones moaning and bitching about poor government services too.

Given that downstate contributes squat, it seems apppropriate.

Out of Illinois 12.7MM people, about 80% live in the Chicago area. I would guess the economic output of Illinois is probably more like 90-95% Chicago and surrounding counties.

Downstate complains about being an afterthought. Thats because they should be.

It's that kind of talk as to why Democrats lose elections. Trash-talking the "small areas" while humping the leg of the big cities.

Downstate Illinois contributes to the agricultural economy while Chicago contributes to the state's murder rate and white-collar political-connected crime.

Boo ****ing Hoo. Regular Joes are struggling and you think I should give a **** about a bunch of assholes in Springfield?
Illinois is in the Top 5 when it comes to highest paid State reps in the nation.

Rauner was trying to put a leash on Madigan and his donkeys when it came to spending and taxes. Obviously he was a ***** when you got right down to it, but he tried. And at least he paid his ****ing taxes, unlike JB Prickster, who did some property diddling to pay less.

As I said... 90% of the economic activity and revenue is from Chicago.

Downstate is subsidized farmers, meth labs, and Caterpillar.

Oh. I thought you liked people who avoided taxes, like the Cheeto-in-Chief.

And IL is also one of the five most populous states- although you might not be aware of it when you’re downstate surrounded by corn and unsellable soybeans.

Its also funny he mentioned the FOID administration, they pass tons of paperwork and hoops to get a FOID card then complain about it being too onerous so they pass more taxes to pay for their own bull****. Those of you that DEMAND this crap should pay for it.

77%. That includes the collar counties. Ag is king in Illinois and Chicago is big due to a few things, one is as financial center and shipping center, AG as a whole contributes massively to Chicago's growth as a commodity center. The one you won't want to talk about is how Chicago and Democrats exist to grow government and Chicago has become all too important to government as policies cannot pass unless they effect a net positive to Chicago. Grow government=grow Chicago.

Indiana did the same thing, so it would be stupid not to, sort of like how Indiana is going to lose a bunch of pot money to Illinois now.

I doubt it’s that low, given the population in Chicago and the wealth generation.

Agriculture is not that important in Chicago. Corn and hogs futures are just a fraction of what the Merc does... currency, bonds and other stuff is huge.

I love the whining about not growing government when Chicago basically subsidizes downstate- tax revenues are generated in Chicagoland and consumed by subsidy loving, food stamp dependent losers in dying towns with no future.

Plainly obvious you don't want any part of facts, you keep living in your ivory tower of bull****.

Little by little the democrats are turning America into the ungodly cesspool they envision with themselves in charge.

I wonder how much of this new revenue will go toward repairing the state's ruined finances?
