Four family members found shot dead in Ohio apartment complex

I have been following this tragedy closely: my son lives in the same township and I was waiting for the national news to pick up on this given the horrible attack on the synagogue recently. However, there is no leads now in terms of the perpetrator and it is unknown what the motivation was

Police were not able to determine a motive on Monday evening, but said that there was no danger to the community.
“It does not appear that the shooter is among the dead,” Chief Joel Herzog said. “It appears to be isolated.”
The president of a local Sikh temple said the family worshiped there and called the deaths “a very great loss for our community.”

Some jackass probably doesn't even know what Sikhism is...

"He's wearen turban! Shoot em!"

Let's see:

4 shot dead.

Perp escaped.

No danger to community.

?????????

Possibly. We had some attacks in California by the same sort of idiots.

I knew a couple sikhs when I was on the squash tour since it's a big sport in India. U of Western Ontario's top player when I was a senior in college was a Sikh. His coach was a friend of mine and I got to know him a bit. Wonderful person. After 9-11, some moron killed a Sikh cab driver thinking the guy was a muslim!. Another squash friend of mine was an Indian Muslim. He noted to me how completely idiotic that was given past rivalries between Sikhs and Muslims. HE-a Muslim-noted that Sikhs were the best allies a country could have and the worst enemies one could fight. I think the crime rate of Sikhs in the USA is about zero. I remember we briefed the TSA about Sikhs and their knives.

It will be interesting to see what was the cause of this horrific massacre of four people who -as of now-had nothing in their backgrounds that would suggest they would be involved in this sort of massacre.

The reason there should be a death penalty!

I agree with you about the death penalty. Some states still have the death penalty but I believe that murders committed as hate crimes or retributions for crimes committed against certain religious groups should fall under federal law and those people be executed.

If the community isn't in danger according to the police, the perp(s) had a thing for the family. Nothing stolen (not a robbery). Not a hate crime against Sikhs or the community would still be in danger.

Maybe the father did it? I have no clue. It's possible, though.

Not a hate crime in this instance. Or, so, I surmise from the police report.

In the days following 911, on 15 September, one of the first Americans to be murdered was a Sikh in Phoenix. The Sikh, a former computer engineer and analyst for HP, had saved enough money to buy a gas station and other small businesses. At the time of his murder, he was planting flowers with a landscaper at his gas station in Mesa. The Sikh was shot 5 times by a hate filled bigot in retaliation for 911 because he wore a turban. The killer then drove directly to another store and attempted to shoot a Lebanese American but missed. Next, the killer fired shots at a house owned by a family that had immigrated from Afghanistan. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The killer, soon arrested, is doing life without parole.

I have known a few Sihks. To my experience they are peaceful people. I don't know the motive for the murders committed in Ohio but the first assumption must be it had something to do with their religion and their attire.

How terribly sad. When I lived in Cinti, if I remember right, West Chester wasn't a bad area. That was 30 years ago so I don't know if it's changed.

Its still a very good area. The fire department is the best rated in the country. My son just bought a house there. I was buying him a safe for his guns and papers, and I was trying to decide if I should spend an extra 500 bucks to get a 60 minute fire guarantee over a 45 minute one, and the clerk showed me how good the fire response time is.

I live near West Chester and this is a huge shock for the area given that crime is almost non-existent in terms of serious stuff

Yup, I knew it was a while since I was there but I remember it being one of the nicer suburbs, especially for young people (who couldn't afford Montgomery until they were grown up).

Very sad story. I'm sure the police are examining every connection right now. In this day and age nothing would shock me as far as the suspect. Jilted teenage boyfriend? Family member? Someone who hates Sikhs. Who knows? But so so sad anyway you slice it.

I don't recall seeing anyone else on this board who is as close to this area as I am: the minute I hear any update I will post it. I understand why this murder of four people has not gotten the same attention as that anti semitic asshole who shot that brave loving lady in the synagogue along with wounding several other Jews-that was a clear hate crime by a bigoted scum bag, while we have no idea why these four Sikhs were massacred. So it might not be a hate crime as that term is generally applied.

Yup, exactly. That's what I was saying. For all we know, this is a jilted lover or a family member (hence the PD saying there was no danger to the public) or something else. Not that I hope it's the case but it would make the story a tiny iota less horrific if we find out they weren't killed because they were Sikhs.

Please let me know if you hear any updates. I don't tend to look in this section but I saw your new thread on the Home Page list and it caught my attention.

The Ohio of Bureau of Criminal Investigation is involved (they supposedly cracked the Pike county murders that happened 3 years ago with several trials pending) and they are searching the pond behind the site of the slayings yet again, but no real news in our local newscast at noon today

I bet they were killed with a gun...

"He's wearen turban! Shoot em!"

After 9/11, that was a thing. Everyone assumed "Turban = Muslim" and they were attacked.
Lotta Sikhs were hate crime victims in the weeks following 9/11.

"He's wearen turban! Shoot em!"

Like the other one who was killed by a man wanting to kill Muslims. Exactly the first thought that came to mind. But who knows.

I bet they were killed with a gun...

Bullets actually-there is no evidence anyone was beaten to death by a gun or that a gun snuck up on one or more of the victims and garroted them or shanked them

Let me be the first to say that I blame Trump.

Cue the hater's ::echo chamber::

Anyone who wears a turban or MAGA hat is going to be a target of racist attacks.

Any suspects yet?
