Do I understand this right? Last night’s election is to fill a House seat only until THIS November, when another election takes place?

Actually they will be in office until sometime in January but yeah this election isn't practical but it's very very political.

Good point; what a monumental waste of time and resources. I can think of a few solutions to situation where a seat will only be vacant for a short term. Maybe this time the respective parties will police up all the signage as it will come in handy in November!

Honestly, how finite of a resource do you think money is to the Republican party?

Since they have a lot of vulnerable seats, it looks like even they are going to be stretched pretty thin, especially since the Koch brothers aren't on board the Trump train.

Maybe you're right. I'm hoping we're at a point where volunteer work>pouring endless money in

incumbents have a very high re-election %, essentially this win would guarantee another in November

So much for that Blue sprinkle... in Ohio

The point here isn't that the Republican won in a district that has been Republican since '82, and has been gerrymandered to be Democrat proof. It's that he barely squeaked by. This was supposed to be a safe seat for Republicans. Godzilla should have been able to coast to victory. Instead, Republicans has to pull out all the stops, spend lots of money, and bring in the president. There are a lot of other districts where the Republican is more vulnerable. Democrats continue to over perform in congressional elections by about 15%. That makes a lot more Republican seats vulnerable.

Close. They run again in November. But the winner stays until the next Congress. I think that this one ends in December.

And you think the Democratic Party finances itself selling cookies and holding yard sales? Although, recently they may be considering those options given their poor fund raising performance.

I support Justice Democrats who raise their money exclusively from small dollar donors aka the people!

And don't forget if the NRA files bankruptcy there goes that cash cow!

It came down to turnout. In 2016, the republican beat the democrat in that district 251,000 to 112,000. the election result for the race that just happened was 101,000 to 100,000. That amounts to 150,000 fewer republican votes and only 12,000 fewer democrat votes. So even had the democrat won, it would not have represented a blue wave, but a red boycott.

36 Million? That's chump change. Soros spends that much before lunch.

Is that so? Are you trying to insult my intelligence? This from the article I cited:

The blitz cements the NRA’s status as a key cog in Republican electoral efforts. This cycle, it has paid out more than any other conservative group aside from three Super PACs formed to back GOP presidential candidates.

Excuses are for losers. And it shows a trend that has been shown in recent other elections. Ignore it at your own peril.

Uh-oh for the GOP

High-stakes Ohio election just got closer after county finds hundreds of uncounted votes

Election officials in Franklin County found 588 previously uncounted votes in a Columbus suburb. The result: O'Connor had a net gain of 190 votes, bringing the race's margin down to 1,564...

O'Connor says he's waiting for all votes to be counted.

That includes 3,435 provisional ballots and 5,048 absentee ballots, which will be tabulated by Aug. 24.

It ain't over, folks.

LOL, from a anti-gun organization not surprising. Probably financed by Soros.

So you've moved the goal posts now. First it was the amount the NRA contributed was "small potatoes." Then when I proved you wrong you come up this slop. Can you refute the numbers? No you can't.

Your responses are a big fail and you know it.

The numbers speak for themselves

The numbers represent about the same trends as 2010, where the Democrats lost 60 seats.

Indeed they do. This election should have been a cakewalk for Republicans. The district hasn't been represented by a Democrat since DOS was used on IBM PCs. It should have been won by double-digits. Since days after the election it is so close we don't know difinitively who won, this does speak for itself.
