Not sure what the controversy here is? The governor has publicly denounced Jones several times and has asked him to step away from the race and would rather have some other Republican in the race. Even your own article talks about how Rauner tried several times to get Jones purged from the voter rolls.

Rauner should just issue an executive order removing Jones from the ballot and let that be that.

Isn't this the guy that is running that no one supports and no other Republican will run because its an impossible race to win? Or is this a different one.

He can't. That would be Unconstitutional and would surely be shot down by the courts. He tried a several times to get Jones off the ballot legally and failed.

You have it correct. However, no one supports Republicans (no one that matters, anyway) , so it's representative of all 435 seats up for election. I'm predicting it! The voters will make the socially responsible decision and award all 435 seats to the Democrats, simultaneously impeach Trump and Pence, install Nancy Pelosi as President and bring America back to sanity and common sense government! Ya, but if he doesn't drop out, I get the impression the governor's refusal to follow Ted Cruz's lead means he'd rather the neo nazi than the democrat.

"I really really want you to quit because you make everyone on my team look bad, but I still can't endorse a Democrat over you. You have no place in our party, your slime, your lowest of the low, but I can't root for the other team under any circumstances. Even when someone as terrible as you joins mine" - is what I think he is saying with this next part.

"No,” Rauner answered when asked if voters should instead cast a ballot for Lipinski, according to WCIA TV. “The one thing I will say is the person, that guy, Johnson or whatever his name is, should not be on the ballot.”

The man would rather see a Nazi win, than a democrat. That's the problem.

After viewing the video and the insert video of his speech I'd say this guy is a disgrace.

The Republican Party SHOULD disavow this gentleman as a candidate on their ticket. If there is no other candidate willing to run, or even if his district is 90% Democrat with a guaranteed win for them, it would be better to have NO one run under the Republican ticket.

I'm with Rubio, run someone else or don't vote for this guy. He can always run third party.

Maybe it has nothing to do with "Democrat" and everything to do with Lipinski's views on things? We don't know. Yes, you can certainly take it the way that you have. But just going off that statement we really don't know.

Note that I'm just giving an alternative here. I agree that partisanship is the more likely reason. Just trying to be fair.

As far as I know the Republican party HAS disavowed him. But they can't stop him from saying that he's a Republican.

There was nothing they could do. They already did that, but legally they can't make him not run.

Lipinski, the D candidate won last time 65-35. Both are unopposed. Even Democrats won't run against him.

Republicans would be better off to dismiss and ignore him instead of giving him face time. But as I said, Cruz is an idiot.

Except that Jones is under Rauner's jurisdiction. Rauner could make up a felony to charge Jones with to get him disqualified from the ballot.

It was my understanding Arthur Jones ran unopposed. His one vote for himself put him over the top. How many total votea did he get and how many available in that solidly blue district ??
