The US Supreme Court has refused to take up former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's conviction for corruption and 14 year sentence. The Court also refused to consider the case in 2016. Wife Patti Blagojevich says it's obvious now that nothing will happen by judicial review, and the Blagojevich family will probably explore an alternative. It is thought that the family might now appeal to Donald Trump for a presidential commutation/pardon.

Just further evidence of a corrupt system.

I never voted for Blago, didn't even like the guy until all this came about. What they're doing to him is criminal.

A jury convicted him of 17 of the 20 charges, including trying to sell Obama's Senate seat (pay-to-play), and extorting state funds.

The Illinois House voted 114–1 to impeach Blagojevich, and he was removed from office by the Illinois Senate 59–0, which further prohibited Blago from ever holding public office in Illinois again.

More corrupt politicians should serve heavy time like Blago. Maybe they'd be less inclined to milk the government-service cash-cow.

If it weren't for the ban I suspect he would eventually get elected again.

We are not always wise in our choices.

Not only am I a resident of IL living in Chicago -- the guy lived 3 blocks from me. I'm quite aware of the events...

The above bolded says it all. Unless it's to give themselves a pay raise, the above just don't happen.

Blago got the hammer for conspiring, or, you know, doing what every politician does. Meanwhile, Jesse Jackson Jr. actually got caught thieving and received a reluctant slap on the wrist.

When compared to the two yodel's who've succeeded him? You might be right.

There is something about the Chiraq legal system getting all up in ya over corruption, when murder in da hood is damn near a misdemeanor’s worth of effort from the Po-Po because of no witnesses willing to come forward because of fear of reprisals.

I can't remember the last time Illinois had a good governor.

I can't remember the last time Illinois had a good governor.
Edgar and even he wasn't without scandal.
I might nominate Dan walker, here. At least for his time in office. He was the Ross Perot of Illinois politics, and seemed sincere. Of course a decade later he took a felony for his role in the mid-eighties S&L debacle, which pretty much killed his good-guy image.

But hey, he walked across Illinois, blisters and all. Few thought he'd make it, but he did. He finished his improbable walk, and finished his improbable campaign - to ultimately win the governor's mansion. Not bad for a reverse-carpet-bagger San Diegoan in the far north highly political state of Illinois!

That's a no brainer. I remember the news story well. ABC News, had an excerpt from the FBI investigation. The FBI played part of his phone conversations where he was recorded.

There was no circumstantial evidence against Blagojevich, it was all hard evidence.

Stupid. And in Chicago.

Blagojevich pissed In someone's Cheerios, or I am betting he would not have seen one day in incarceration. Chicago politics. Maybe the mob wanted him locked up.

Political extortion for Obama. And Rahm Emanuel thinks Chicago is a great city, and after the Blogojevich escapade Emanuel leaves the White House for a questionable location , well known for corruption and it's political problems ; on top of financial hardships. It would be like leaving Trump tower as a butler to supervise the large shower at a city basketball court.

Yeah.... I scratch me head also.

There are people who commit violent crimes and do not get a 14 year sentence. It was way too harsh.

..........doing to him is criminal.

No. Its selective. Some politicians commit crimes and never pay for their misdeeds.

Others who mess up , get locked up AFTER a media circus trashing their name and reputation. It was like that for the longest, here near the east coast. Politicians messing up went to a federal prison. Others who did much worse....just had to resign.

Even the judicial system is messed up.

No hair-dye/styling is allowed in the pokey. Rods's hair is now shorter and is entirely gray.
