Missouri House launches impeachment probe of Gov. Eric Greitens

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — In a historic decision, the Missouri House formally launched an investigation Monday that could lead to the impeachment and ouster of Gov. Eric Greitens.

House Speaker Todd Richardson named seven members to a special committee that will lead the unprecedented probe of a Missouri chief executive. The hastily formed panel will be chaired by GOP state Rep. Jay Barnes of Jefferson City.

“We have worked over the weekend and through today to formulate that committee. I’ve asked the committee to begin its work this week,” Richardson said.

The action by Richardson came just days after Greitens was charged by St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner with felony invasion-of-privacy, stemming from an extramarital affair in 2015 to which he has admitted.

I have personally contacted Greiten's office TWICE and asked him to resign.

I assume you are from Missouri then, so I ask you what information you have on this issue that would motivate a request for his resignation?

According to the article:

Greitens, who was not governor at the time, allegedly photographed the partially nude woman and threatened to disseminate the photograph if she exposed their relationship.
https://www.stripes.com/news/us/mis...peachment-probe-of-gov-eric-greitens-1.514070

So he had an adulterous affair prior to holding office, presumably with a woman of age since the article does not mention she was under-aged. During the affair he allegedly took some semi-nude photos which could mean anything partially clad.

There is an invasion of privacy allegation which might stem from a claim these pictures were taken without knowledge or consent, and there is an allegation that he used these photos to "threaten" her with public shame if she revealed their relationship.

From the limited information available it sounds like an extramarital "affair" gone bad combined with a "metoo" response in retaliation. Still perhaps you know more?

So I am curious as to what your political beef is with this gentleman that pushed your "I asked him twice to resign" attempts? What don't we non-Missourians know about him that would inform our opinions on the subject?

I take it you are from the great state of Missouruh, why do you want to see him resign - is it over what he might have done regarding the blackmail, that he admitted to a prior affair, or something else?
I'd like to see them get to the bottom of the blackmailing allegations.

reply to post #2 & #3:

I would like to see the adulterer & felon resign because:
(1) Greitens ran on the family values/Jesus platform for the GOP = fake religion bull**** politics, again by a GOP candidate
(2) Greitens admitted cheating on his wife even while during the campaign he voiced (multiple times) how much his family means to him = bull****
(3) Greitens has committed a felony, which is related to a sexual matter; taking a nude photo of another without the consent of the person
(4) Greitens transmitted the image via electronic means

I could go on but let's just say that this former US Navy SEAL has dishonored pretty much everything that he claims means anything to him; his family, his faith, his kids, his office, his legacy, I could go on but .......... He is not fit to serve the Office of Governor of The Sate of Missouri .............

No matter if Greitens resigns, is forced out of office, or stays, he will always be a scumbag ........

PS - my (state, or otherwise) residence status has nothing to do with desiring leadership in this nation that acts as morally as any politician would advertise and/or claim ...............

1. He may be and adulterer, but in order to be a felon one must be convicted of a felony. Has he been convicted of a felony yet, or are there merely charges being considered or filed?

2. I understand he was a Democrat until 2015 when he changed to the Republican Party. A lot of people run on the "holier than thou" meme to get votes from the Christian Right. So what?

3. Have you seen the photo evidence? There is an allegation it was done without knowledge or consent. Many things are done in bedrooms people know about at the time but come to regret later. Time, and if sent to court, the evidence will tell.

4. I don't know about this part...again evidence will tell. I am not aware of a law that absolutely prohibits sending adult photos via electronic means. It depends on the situation and also requires a conviction in a court of law. Until then it is just an allegation.

But all of this is related to a private act performed prior to his taking office. What has he done IN office that compels you to demand his resignation absent a conviction for any crime?

The so called 'family value' Republicans having affairs, blackmail, paying off hookers to shut them up, sexual misconduct from the WH down to the State governments, the list is almost becoming endless. But Republican voters don't seem to care. But for some reason they STILL care about a BJ that happened back in the 90's.

I wonder why.

nope; they don't give a **** about politicians running on the 'family values/Jesus vote' and then screwing anything that moves .........not a thought ......

what you seem to neglect is the FACT that the majority of GOP candidates run on the 'family values/Jesus vote' platform, which appeals to the emotion of the voting public, NOT the intellect of the voting public.

If GOP candidates could find it within themselves to STOP running their campaigns on the 'emotional bull**** appeal' and actually get real with voters, then we would not have folks like myself calling them out on it when they get caught ****ing everything that moves.

maybe the GOP candidates could start appealing to the intellect of voters, instead of appealing to the emotion of voters when it comes to religious & moral issues; the candidates are liars & it makes them look bad.

It also makes those that vote for them look really ****ing stupid ...........

Again with deflections.

Your OP cites a news article...but your own comment states YOU personally requested his resignation twice:

Missouri House launches impeachment probe of Gov. Eric Greitens...

You don't strike me as a Christian fundamentalist (although I might be wrong)...

So once again, what is YOUR personal beef with his performance other than these allegations and that when he ran he appealed to Christian votes?

Looks like the entire prosecution case is a fraud.

Greitens Prosecutor Must Be Held Accountable for Lies
Dave Grossman, Observer

UPDATE: This morning, a law enforcement whistleblower apparently came forwardwith the news that the Circuit Attorney who is the subject of this piece may be under an FBI investigation by the public corruption unit. If confirmed, it adds to the picture painted below of a prosecutor that has gone about her work in a dangerous and reckless fashion.
Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero.
That’s how much evidence the prosecution has put forward in their felony case against Eric Greitens.
Don’t take my word for it. Look at what they’ve admitted in court. The prosecution has said it has no photo. They have no evidence of transmission of a photo. They have no evidence that the Governor tried to blackmail his mistress with a photo. They have no victim. They have no police report. All of this has been a part of the public record of the case thus far.
In other words, the prosecution has nothing to show that this case is anything other than a three-year-old affair between two consenting adults. Apparently, in 2018 in St. Louis, you can be charged with a felony for that kind of thing. If you’re a Republican. . . .

Missouri governor charged with felony computer data tampering

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens (R) appears in a police booking photo in St. Louis

April 20, 2018

(Reuters) - Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, already facing an invasion-of-privacy trial next month in connection with an extramarital affair, was charged separately on Friday with felony computer tampering tied to his political fund-raising. The new case was brought by the same St. Louis prosecutor two days before the statute of limitations deadline for the charge, which stems from Greitens’ alleged theft of a donor list from the military veterans charity he created and ran for several years. According to Friday’s criminal complaint, the electronic theft occurred in April 2015, about a month after the privacy offense was alleged to have occurred, while Greitens was running for governor. The complaint and accompanying “probable cause” statement accuse Greitens of felony computer data tampering to obtain and transmit the donor list of the veterans charity The Mission Continues without permission for his own political gain. According to court documents in the case, Greitens directed another individual to obtain the donor list and furnish it to a fundraiser who was working on behalf of Greitens’ gubernatorial campaign. The charity’s employee handbook and its non-disclosure agreements “prohibited disclosure of the donor list and the retention of it by anyone not employed by and working on behalf of The Mission Continues,” the probable cause statement said.

Another crooked pol who needs some serious pokey time.
