Can Dems be any more out of touch? No, they can't.

You are wondering why any public official would want to protect immigrants that are committing crimes? I don't think any of them are doing that. None that I've heard of unless I misunderstand you.

You should read up on how Kate Steinle was murdered. There absolutely are people who want sanctuary cities specifically to protect criminals.

Sanctuary Cities do exactly that by refusing to cooperate with ICE. Emanuel held that press conference in response to DT saying he intended to target criminals who were here illegally.

No. sanctuary cities help authorities catch criminals because immigrants can actually call the police on other immigrants. Because that's who they are around. They aren't calling or helping the police if they think it might get their mother deported. This helps catch serious criminals.

I hope trump will cut off all federal funds to sanctuary cities.

Absolutely. I hope President Trump hastens California's demise by cutting off whatever funds he can in response to the States harboring of millions of illegal aliens who are destroying it.

Immigrants do less crime than natives, a lot less.

Oh wait, is this thread one of those goofball Reality Free Zones?

My apologies if you know that was fiction.

The Mythical Connection Between Immigrants and Crime - WSJ

It's fairly common for people with an agenda to start talking about legal immigrants when we talk about illegal immigrants.

A great number of illegal immigrants do come here just to work and, frankly, out current immigration policy for unskilled labor lends itself to people overstaying their visa and/or working "off the books". However, there is another side to illegal immigration that the open border crowd generally ignores. Lots and lots of people coming here illegally are doing so to escape justice in their homeland. Just as some American criminals flee the country to avoid prosecution for their crimes we've got foreign criminals coming here for the same reason. If, for example, you raped your cousin in Hermosillo and now need to get out of town you head for the border and then to a "sanctuary city" where you have less fear of being captured and repatriated.

I'll be sure to get a chuckle in at your expense when New York destroys its NYCID database. That's more than 850,000 people you'll never find.
I'll get a chuckle, too, when the people that do this get arrested for destroying public records.

Maybe Rahm has ulterior motives. maybe he figures enticing illegal immigrants to come into Chicago will encourage them to settle into their south and west side communities and then the Latinos will respond similarly to what they have done parts of California and weed out the violent crime in the black community by killing off all the black gangs.

This announcement by Rahm is no different than the 'bold' declaration made by NYCs mayor. Look how relevant and fiesty we are! We arent going to follow federal laws! Screw you! To which the fed should say OK...fine...and we arent going to engage in ANY of your immigration concerns in your city AND we will make sure your employers go at the top of the E-Verify list.

The WSJ article (those rabid Lefties!) goes over the legal/illegal bit.

And you don't discuss what I said, this isn't actually about illegal immigration.

Why on Earth would anyone want to sabotage enforcing the law?

When ideology demands it, no action, no matter how questionable or criminal, is outside the realm of possibility.
Part and parcel of the 'the ends justifies the means' / bunker / us vs them mentality of the left.

Perhaps because having an underclass is massively stupid.
I agree, allowing illegals to stay in the country for too long creates an underclass which is massively stupid. That's why we should deport, fix the borders, and be vigilant about not letting it get out of control, for everyone's sake. The idea to just open the borders and make everyone a citizen who crosses the border, would be worse than "Massively Stupid".

I don't know MaggieD, if Chicago is largely a corrupt cesspool, he's in touch, both personally and on message?

...not to mention, grossly unfair to those who are waiting in line for legal entry and citizenship.

They will really be laughing when NYC loses all that fed money.

Actually, it's a fantasy about the underclass.
No, it's about illegals and sanctuary cities. You are trying to claim it's about "underclass" because calling illegals "underclass" obfuscates that they are ILLEGALS. The fact that they are ALSO poor is irrelevant.

Try it and we'll see you in court. The federal government doesn't have the authority to effectively federalize local law enforcement to do the ICE's job or to compel them to do so under threat of loss of funding. In the real world, it is entirely voluntary and any State or local government who makes such an agreement with the attorney general provides that assistance at their own expense. So it would be financially wiser to tell a Trump administration to pound sand than to round up millions of people and detain them indefinitely anyway.

I'll get a chuckle, too, when the people that do this get arrested for destroying public records.

No you won't, because the law that authorized the creation of the NYCID database contains what has come to be known as the "Tea Party Clause" - which authorizes destruction of the database in this scenario. It's a perfectly legal contingency to prevent the Feds from getting their hands on the information.

What makes you think a city endorsing illegal immigration and then destroying a database IT ADMITS it uses to actually provide services to those on the list is going to be detrimental to anyone OTHER than that city and those on the list?

I DO however agree with their right (scratch that...the rights of the cities IF APPROVED by their state legislatures) to do pretty much whatever the **** they want. And when those liberal cities choose to ignore federal law with people like you cheering wildly, you will ALSO be sure to support the cities that refuse to issue marriage licenses to homosexuals, right?

The feds have the right to withhold federal funds. Good luck in court.

If the feds want it, they'll get it. Hell, they probably already HAVE it. The tentacles of Homeland Security are many and far reaching.

Don't kid yourself.

How would california respond if they lost all federal funding?

I dont think the democrats in that state could hold out for very long.

What about children who were brought here and don't know any other country except this one, the one they were raised in?

California is about the fifth largest economy in the world. I think the US probably needs California, more than California needs the US.

What about children who were brought here and don't know any other country except this one, the one they were raised in?
What does that have to do with sanctuary cities?

Yours is a plea to emotion. "Think of the children!", oh my...

So you are a illegal alien supporter. As stated by JackF, yours is trying to plea to emotions.

No one that I know is against LEGAL immigration. What many are against is ILLEGAL immigration.

Maybe you should ask the parents who are illegal, why are you putting your child at risk by entering the country illegally?
