    Safe to rebrand Wisconsin?

Up until yesterday Wisconsin was generally considered a "purple" state. We had a Republican majority in state Senate, a Republican governer and one Senator from each party. However previous to last night the Democratic presidential candidate had won Wisconsin by a comfortable margin in the last several elections. Last night Trump won Wisconsin, Ron Johnson retained his seat and our state Senate got even more of a republican majority. So I say it's safe to call Wisconsin a red state, at least for the time being. Thoughts?

No. Trump won Wisconsin by 1% with Hillary winning the popular vote by probably about 1%. A state that's 2% more Republican than the national average is not a red state.
There should be Instant Runoff Voting

As far as voting percentages yeah wisconsin isn't that red, but as far as makeup of our representatives we're getting redder by the election.

I want to say, if memory serves, she came once and Kaine came...twice?

Percentages matter. Just 4 years ago Obama and Tammy Baldwin won by a healthy margin. Having Republican leadership doesn't make a state red if none of them are winning by all that much.

I suppose that's fair. It's worth looking at in the future to see how it trends.

Could very well be, I was going by the comment last night on CNN. That said I think John Walker, if i have the name correct, the man that could drill down on the electoral map to counties from 08 and 12 that called it early that the media was wrong. Cannot recall his exact words

Well I CAN say with certainty that Trump came a lot more than Clinton. He actually had a yuuge rally at my hometown of West Bend

    Re: Safe to rebrand Wisconsin?

Being someone who is actually from WI, like the OP is, I'll say that WI as a whole leans red and has been electing republicans on the state level (outside of Dane County & Milwaukee County) for quite a while now. The problem is that the "liberal half" of the state pretty much consists of just Madison and Milwaukee for the most part (the two biggest population centers). Go pretty much anywhere else in the state and you'll see that WI as a whole definitely leans red.

However, I will say that Trump winning WI was most likely an exception, just like Reagan winning WI was an exception.
