WASHINGTON – A month after it appeared the race for president in Michigan might be all but over, Republican Donald Trump has cut deeply into Democrat Hillary Clinton’s post-convention lead, with an exclusive new Free Press/WXYZ-TV poll showing Trump has moved closer to tying Clinton in a state that hasn't backed a Republican nominee since 1988.

Clinton, whose lead in some national polls also has disappeared lately after a successful convention this summer in Philadelphia, still leads Trump 38%-35% in Michigan, according to the poll done by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA for the Free Press, WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) and their outstate partners. But that is within the poll’s 4-percentage-point margin of error, and a significant drop from her 11-point lead last month.

I think Trump's quote today about making cars in Mexico and you can't drink the water in Flint will really resonate in Michigan. That line brilliantly cuts both party establishments as inept and uncaring and positions himself as the only candidate that really cares about the people of Michigan.

I don't really agree with Trump's policy on tariffs to punish manufacturers for off-shoring jobs but you'd better believe it resonates in Michigan.

The margin of Trump's loss is shrinking. That should result in fairly limited optimism.

Believe whatever you want to believe,Trump will lose in November.

Wait and see.

I see Trump sings in people's yards and even at businesses everywhere.. No Hillary signs.. Lots of Trump bumper stickers, a sanders sticker here n there, no Hillary..

Not for everyone in the Alt-Right.
Some of them are as excited by every slight shift in polls like a drowning man grasping at straws.

I can't wait to read all of their 'woulda, coulda, shouldas' after Trump gets his butt handed to him in November.

You realize the link that you provided shows that Clinton has lost 5.3 points in the last month and that she only has a lead of 1.5 points in the two way and only 1.1 in the four way? That is within the margin of error.

If you want to follow Trump off of the cliff, get after it.

Didn't you notice that the more recent poll results that participate in the RCP average are much different than the older ones?
Tell the truth. Are you getting nervous Shrub?

I think this change in Michigan, if it continues, is important. That is a state Mrs. Clinton thought she had pretty much in the bag. Analysts who just a few weeks ago were saying Trump's chances of winning the election were very slim must be wondering if they didn't jump the gun. This much is sure: Mrs. Clinton's health problems have caused many potential voters to question whether she's fit for the job. Just one more dramatic public display of physical distress by her at any time during the next six weeks, and she is finished.

No,I'm not nervous.

I've never said that Clinton would win by a landslide.

I expect the numbers to be close, but Clinton will win.

She's not crooked and she's still ahead of Trump.

I'm surprised there are actually people out there who would think that she isn't crooked. I guess I have just been assuming that people are seeing her as the better of two evils- which is actually the reason I'm voting for Trump. I respect that decision much more than I respect someone who can be beaten over the head with facts and still make the statement that Hillary isn't crooked.

I'm not at all surprised to hear people say that they are going to vote for a bigoted xenophobe like Trump.

We all forget how good the Muslims have been for Europe.

Lots of Muslims are coming to the USA.Trump won't be stopping them because he won't be in the White House.

Get ready to deal with them.Very few of them live in the part of Europe where I live.

So you are saying they(Muslims) are bad news?

She's absolutely crooked but no worries. She's running a fantastic campaign ! Lol !

This is history in the making. The first female presidential candidate is running what has to be the most pathetic and disastrous Presidential campaign in our Nations history.

Its a absolute embarrassment. Their primary focus is literally keeping her upright. Keeping her healthy enough to make it to November

And she's brought all of this on herself

I really do not want another Clinton in the WH, but Trump as the other choice is much more worse. But if the USA is to get screwed I would rather see it under Trump. That way people will then realize too late that... But ultimately it will be the fault of the voters.
