Pompeo condemns Iran's launch of military satellite | TheHill

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hammered Iran over its recent launch of a military satellite, dismissing claims from Tehran that its space program is intended for peaceful purposes.

“For years, Iran has claimed its space program is purely peaceful and civilian. The Trump Administration has never believed this fiction. This week’s launch of a military satellite by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, makes clear what we have said all along: Iran’s space program is neither peaceful nor entirely civilian,” Pompeo said in a statement.

A satellite today, an IRBM or ICBM tomorrow.

Obviously Iran is full of a bunch of assholes, but how can we condemn someone for doing something we're the world leaders in? We tell others not to make nukes while we make nukes and have the largest number of nukes, and we tell others not to make military satellites while we have more military satellites than all other countries combined and are launching more all the time. This is purely political posturing by Pompeo. Every modern nation has or is making military satellites.

How does launching a satellite prove that a space program for launching things into space prove that a space program is not for launching satellites into space

From the past quality issues of Iranian military hardware (their armed drone was hilarious) I wouldn't overly worry about this.

Why worry anyway? Iran is no threat to us.

Good point

Nobody can beat any of these offshoots.

The problem is Islam, and as long as Islam exists these groups will regenerate.

You can't blame an entire religion for a few religious fanatics.

Actually it is the religion itself, and the teachings and deeds of Muhammed, that breeds the problems.

1.8 billion Muslims who get along just fine would beg to differ.

Actually not all of them would, in fact the numbers in polls are scary.

A person has to understand the religion to even make a comment on this.
Most Muslims know little about their own religion, confined to the Qur'an and the stories told by their clerics.
Very few know anything about the main character.. Muhammed.

I didn't know you were an expert on Islam. How long have you been practicing?

Pompous pompeo is full of hot air and fecal matter. Hes the kind of abusive person that embodies america’s imperial thirst.

I don't practice it, however I do read about it.
My studies, over the last 15 years or so, are in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Most Muslims are confined to the Qur'an only, and you cannot learn much about Islam by reading the Qur'an.
In fact, if you don't know the correct way to read it, as few Muslims do, much of what you did read is wrong.

My studies are mainly from 400 years prior Muhammed's birth, through the "Rock God" period, his birth, all through his life to his death.
This part of Islam is seen by very few Muslims.

Good books on exactly that to recommend? Objective history on pre-origins and origins and early politics? Have read lots on Rome, christianity’s spread and early doctrinal conflicts and the political fallouts and processes but hard to find anything objective on Islam as a assessment of history without all the modern political baggage and agenda pushing

The reason we know so little about these people is because everyone was illiterate and nothing was written down.

The "Sirat Rasual Allah", better known as "Ishaq's Sira", is the only biography of Muhammed written within 200 years of his lifetime.
This book can be downloaded on line.

After that is "The history of Al Taburi".
These two are the only source of Muhammed from near that time period on planet earth.

After these we have Bukhari, 300 years after the fact, and then Muslim.
Muslim was a student of Bukhari.

There are no other sources., and most Muslims are steered away from these books.

You do know that you cannot kill a religious belief, don't you?

I don't believe that's entirely true.
Many religions will die with education and evolution, many have already.

So the solution to you is the widespread death of religion?

You want to erase a human practice that has been around for untold thousands of years

Actually it has only been around for 1200 to 1400 years, depending on how you calculate it.
