As Coronavirus Pandemic Sweeps the Globe, Trump Authorizes New Bombing Campaign in the Middle East | Common Dreams News

Authorized by President Donald Trump, U.S. forces late Thursday carried out a wave of airstrikes across Iraq purportedly targeting an Iran-linked militia that the Pentagon claims was behind a rocket attack that killed two American servicemembers earlier this week.

The airstrikes risk sparking yet another dangerous escalation of military tensions between the U.S. and Iran at a uniquely perilous moment: Both nations are struggling to contain and combat the novel coronavirus, with Iran hit particularly hard by the pandemic as it works to muster adequate medical resources while in the vice grip of Trump administration sanctions.

Iraq continued to be in the crossfire of a stupid battle between the "supreme leader" and Trump.

I don't trust the source, but if we did take out another Iranian general, a leader of the Revolutionary Guard, that's good news.

You don't trust Botin Kurdistani (@kurdistannews24)? Why not?

Does he want another war? Thats how you create one

So...hitting back after being attacked, according to you, is "creating a war"?

Sounds like you'd rather we be a *****.

There Is Nothing Left for Americans to Do in Iraq | Council on Foreign Relations

The pitched debate over whether Suleimani was planning an imminent attack—something that is always in the eye of the beholder—on U.S. personnel and interests when he was struck down by a U.S. airstrike last week is important, but the fury with which it is being waged obscures a more fundamental concern about the Iranian general’s demise. It would be one thing to kill Suleimani and bear the burden of the associated risks if there was a plausible case to be made that getting rid of him would have a salutary effect on Iraq and the U.S. ability to influence events there. That seems unlikely. Iraq is in a state of terminal collapse, and the United States is isolated and impotent there. It is thus hard to understand what Washington wants, and what the Americans who were left vulnerable to the likes of Suleimani are actually able to accomplish. The hard truth is that Iraq is lost, and it is time to leave.

The foreign-policy community is reluctant to relitigate the invasion of Iraq and its consequences. Perhaps it is too much for analysts and officials—former and current—to bear, but it is worth understanding how and why the trillions of dollars spent, lives lost, and untold number of injured were simply a waste.

I agree. We need to leave. But that won't be done with the snap of a finger. And until it does happen, we cannot tolerate an attack on our service members.

Iran would be better served by holding back...biding their time...until we are gone. If they won't do that...well, they have more Generals for us to kill.

We killed their general first

We are also not that popular :nahnah::nahnah:

No. They attacked and killed Americans first.

Too bad.

When did Iran attack first

Too bad, does a million Iraqis need to demonstrate

Oh wait, they did

Do I really need to educate you?

Iran-backed militias attacked and killed Americans. We killed their General and two leaders of the militias. Then, just days ago, they attacked and killed Americans again. We killed another of their Generals.

In any case, we don't answer to "millions of Iraqis". We deal with the Iraqi government. Those millions of Iraqis should deal with their government, as well.

Oh for god's sake!! You are going to go back more than 30 years to say that the US started something?

You are dismissed. (see my sig)

The point is that USA and Iran have been fighting back and forth form a while, neither side are to blame but Americas choices have been unpopular in Iraq

swing_voter is correct not to trust your bogus source. Jim Hoft who publishes Gateway Pundit is not a credible news source although he was given press credentials by Donald Trump. His site is well-known as a far right propaganda source of falsehoods and hoaxes.

Unlike ordinary Americans, I have never heard of Kurdistan News 24 and I prefer reputable sources with which I am familiar.
