It wouldn't be surprising to you if you studied the Qur'an. It flat out tells Muslims to fight for the spread of Islam.

And what is interesting is you don't have to actually study it. Just read it.
Studying comes from another direction.
Much of it is jibberish, most needs the sunnah to explain, you can sit and ponder over a sura, wondering what the meaning is, for weeks without an answer.
Or you can read the corresponding verses in the Sunnah and have the answer in 5 minutes.

when I see someone claim they are studying the Qur'an, without the benefit of the Sunnah, most is a lost cause,
and the reason there are so many interpretations of something spelled out very plainly in another writing.
Very little of Islam is in the Qur'an, and unless you know the correct way to read it, much of what you read is wrong anyways. But,

Be a good Muslim, read your Qur'an, try to figure it out, don't make waves, or we will kill you.
