Kingdom eyes holidaymakers as part of plan to diversify economy away from oil

Saudi Arabia will begin offering visas on Saturday for the first time to non-religious tourists, days after the country was criticised at the UN for its grim human rights record.

The kingdom – which has imprisoned and tortured women’s rights activists, carries out regular public executions, and was responsible for the high-profile murder of the Washington Post columnist Jamal Kashoggi – has said it is opening up to holidaymakers as part of a push to diversify its economy away from oil.

They will thoroughly go through your suitcases at Customs. No alcohol, recreational drugs, or pictures allowed. Beware.

No thanks. I'd rather take a risk with the bears in Yellowstone.

I say boycott them completely. It's like a feudal monarchy from a long ago medieval time. I recall them killing some woman recently after she was found guilty of sorcery :shock:

Wow , the UN ripping them a new one over their well documented human rights abuses. I am often told they only do that to the state of Israel.

I had an Arabian friend that lived over there and had a fetish for cakes. He was caught stealing them from a market stall and had his right hand chopped off. Then he got caught doing it again so they chopped his left hand off. I asked him how he was coping since the amputations. He said things were pretty bad as he was now only able to steal doughnuts !! :shock:

Can't stand the nutcases that rule the country and people should be aware, before they put any more money their way , that they are considered to be the financial backers of many of the most fanatical and dangerous strands/groups of radical Islam
