The Iranians are prepared to announce tomorrow (5/8/19) that they will again begin their nuclear program.

The Trump administration (Bolton) has announced that the US has information that Iran is planning imminent attacks on Americans or US soldiers in the region. The US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln is on station in the Med under high alert. The Pentagon has also sent B-52 bombers to the region.

US SoS Mile Pompeo has canceled scheduled meetings with Angela Merkel and German government officials and has departed Germany due to an "emergency". Reporters traveling with Pompeo are under a news and location blackout.

Trump needs a distraction from Mueller and subpoena's and it seems Iran may be that distraction.

How can you know they are legitimate since these are such dishonest actors. One of the many reasons why this President is such a danger to our national security.

That's the problem with a president that has told 10,000 lies in 2 years. It's almost impossible to discern the factual from the farcical with him.

If it was a distraction, shouldn't Trump be crowing this from the rooftops in the same way that Iran performs their "Death to America! Death to Israel!" rallies?

I am pretty sure even he doesn't know, or care. He just has a talent for knowing what his base wants to hear and then just says it. That seems to be good enough for him, and his base. Any connection to the actual real world is purely optional and coincidental.

Not really. Trump is not on rock-solid ground when it comes to Iran. None of the other P5+1 nations agree with Trump tearing up the JCPA and pushing confrontation.
 
Here's the thing, US forces can now launch a devastatingly conventional assault causing greater destruction than at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Commanders of the US military would enjoy nothing more than deploying their toys, as they assume this will silence all other rogue nations afterwards. They may be correct. Even if not, no one in this world will be laughing.

If the Iranians are stupid enough to launch one missile, attack one Navy vessel, their nation will suffer as few have since WWII. Trump will use any excuse, he will not be another Jimmy Carter suffering a Black Hawk down, another Reagan withdrawing from an exploded Marine barracks, another Bill Clinton lobbing a couple of missiles at stone age terrorists. He will go whole hog.

It is time to pray no sparks fly.

I agree wholeheartedly that no kinetic provocation should ever be tolerated. The problem is, it's extremely difficult (an immense understatement) to believe Trump anymore.

I really wish Marine Mattis was still running the Pentagon. A straight shooter. Chaos would tell ya what the real deal was. But even Mattis couldn't suffer that sycophant clown posse in the White House any longer.
 
Once again the US Government is putting Saudi/UAE and Israeli interests ahead of its own peoples' interests and will become entangled again in a pointless and unwinnable war in the greater Middle East region.

This will drive Iran further into the sphere of both Russia and China and then one day the US public will wake up to headlines that Iranian cruise and ballistic anti-ship missiles bought from China and/or Russia have sunk an entire carrier task group and many thousands of American sailors have perished. The US will respond with massive reprisal attacks and many more Iranians will die than Americans. Then Iran will incinerate the Saudi/UAE oil fields with ballistic missiles and rocket attacks. More will die.

Let's save a lot of lives and vast fortunes of tax-payer money by kicking President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, Crown Prince MBS, Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu and other like-minded neo-cons and militarists out of government and into jail cells where these sociopathic menaces belong. Iran has not invaded a foreign country since the late 18th Century. The other states mentioned here, not so much.

Well, I do not think any of the P5+1 nations are looking out for the United States' interest on that count, and I do not think any of those nations would care overmuch if Iran obtained a nuclear weapon. So long as they can trade with Iran they will shrug their shoulders.

The US government signed the deal in front of the entire world. No JCPA violations by Iran have been reported by the IAEA.

The only acceptable deal would have been one in which the Iranians dismantled all nuclear facilities capable of generating fissile material. A ten year suspension is not a deal. It is a decade-long kicking the can down the road in exchange for allowing Iran to integrate itself into the international trading and monetary system, expand its hegemony, and develop its weapons technology for ten years just in time to become a nuclear power. And, again, I do not think any of those nations would care overmuch if Iran obtained a nuclear weapon because they want to have trade with Iran which presents a huge economic opportunity for many. I am under no illusions about the nature of the regime or its grand strategy, which is to dominate its geopolitical region.

Don't misunderstand. I never liked the JCPA and felt the terms weren't rigorous enough.

That said, the United States put its signature to this deal along with Iran, China, France, Russia, the UK and Germany. It is overseen by the IAEA which reported no Iranian violations.

By unilaterally expunging its signature, Trump's USA is no better than Putin's Russia ... which violated numerous signed treaties with Ukraine.

This imagery from the UAE shows that a small IED was placed underwater on the stern of this anchored vessel and way above rudder/screws and far from oil and fuel tanks. Not enough bang to do real damage to steerage, just the hull. It’s all wrong. Just big enough for TV. The "Aft Peak Tank" is typically a ballast tank not a storage tank for oil. So if someone was to put a "hole" in that tank it would not cause a spill, sinking or fire damage but as an engineered attack to excite the media would be furthest away from the Bridge and crew.

I agree, this whole manufactured controversy is simply being driven by a convergence of interests:

1. Mike Bolton has been raging for war with Iran for decades
2. Saudi Arabia also wants to convince its ally America into attacking Iran, to further Saudi's goals of promoting their state religion, Wahhabism, and defeating the Iranian "Shia apostates". This conflict goes back to the 7th century.
3. Israel (and especially their president Netenyahu) hates Iran and is doing everything he can to undermine Iran and has been doing for years

That's all this comes down to, really. A manufactured incident to serve as the excuse for score-settling between interested powers acting like a bunch of gangsters.

I'm against nuclear proliferation in principle. I don't think humanity benefits from pouring billions of dollars into weapons of mass death and destruction that could destroy the planet several times over. That said, given the behaviour of the USA towards Iran since 1979 I don't think the country or its people will be safe from acts of bullying and aggression until they do get a nuclear weapon. It should be clear by now to everyone in Iranian politics that deals with America cannot be trusted, and that the only way to safeguard Iran is to get the bomb, as quickly as possible.
 
There is a guy that I work with that is in the National Guard. He has a Degree in Chemistry and is a Chemical Specialist in the Guard.

He has orders as of two weeks of being deployed to Jordan at the end of July 2019 for a year.

Coincidence? I think not.:roll:
