Five European Union countries represented on the UN Security Council condemned US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, reported Anadolu on 27 March.
The Golan Heights are not Israeli territories and their forcible seizure in 1967 is in contradiction with the norms of international law.

This is stated in a joint statement by France, the United Kingdom (permanent members of the United Nations Security Council), Belgium, Germany and Poland (non-permanent members of the Security Council). The statement notes that the five European countries consider that Israeli sovereignty on the Syrian Golan Heights is not recognized. The document emphasizes the inadmissibility of attempts at unilateral forced border review, which contradicts the Charter of the United Nations.

"The annexation of the Golan Heights by Israel will cause even more serious problems in the region," the statement said.

As the news agency reported, on the eve of March 26, the Syrian authorities appealed to the UN to convene an emergency meeting of the Security Council because of the United States decision to recognize the Golan Heights as Israel's territory. France currently chairs the United Nations Security Council, which has to determine the date of the meeting.

Turkey, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the League of Arab States, the European Union and even the closest military-political allies of the United States of America and Europe - Canada and the United Kingdom - expressed their negative attitude towards the recognition of the Golan by the United States.

Why did Trump decide to recognize the Golan Heights as Israel's land? American political scientist Andrew Korybko believes that Trump's recognition of the Golan Heights as part of Israel is his gesture to Tel Aviv, seeking support from the pro-Israel lobby in the United States in future elections.

It turns out that Trump, in order to obtain political preferences, puts the United States in a bad position. After all, it's clear that Washington has a double standard, without paying attention to the views of other countries or even its allies. Subsequently, this will lead to a decrease in US authority on the international scene and perhaps even to isolation. trump-netanyahu-golan-heights-israeli-land.jpg

Horse manure. Empty paper. Syria is not getting the Golan back, ever. Recognition of reality. Syria is now an international pariah. No one is jumping the shark for Syria. Muslims don't like paying for real estate twice, they won't give up a nickel's worth. No one likes losing RE. TFB baby. Shouldn't have gone to war like a bunch of bullies, running home to mama for a kiss to make the black eye go away. Tough nuggies. Just more antisemitic crap from Europeans who still believe their Middle Ages attitudes matter. It is time to stop blaming Jews for their own petty problems. The Syrians FUed, had to take it on the chin. Let them suffer.

Isolation? LOL!!

With the largest economy in the world, the US will NEVER be isolated.

To be sure, there'll be a lot of pissing and moaning from around the world but they won't isolate us. They want us.

This is fantastic, now we just need recognition of Judea and Samaria and we're off to a good start.

Would you be in favor of non Jewish residents of these territories getting the vote once they are incorporated into Israel?

A lot of hot air over a lot of nonsense. Whether or not it is a good idea for the US to officially recognize Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights is a matter for debate, but whatever your point of view in that debate may be, it changes nothing to the FACT that israel has annexed this territory and exercises full sovereignty over it. Nor does it alter one way or another the "authority" of the US in the Middle East, which is solely based on the strategic power of the US.

As to the crticism of certain UN security council members, are those same countries also loudly proclaiming that they do not recognize China's annexation of Tibet? Morocco's annexation of the Western Sahara, Etc.?

I suggest allowing it only if they first convert to Judaism and reject all other religions. Meaning a real conversion to become a practicing Jew, not a superficial conversion.

However, perhaps the Palestinian state can be centered on the Gaza Strip, and non-Jewish voters in the West Bank could be allowed to vote in Gazan elections.

Not that my views on the matter count for anything. But that would be my advice.

The Golan Heights are very much Israeli territory now. Syria doesn't even exist as a functioning country anymore.

I don't see any problems.

puts the United States in a bad position.
Not really.

it's clear that Washington has a double standard, without paying attention to the views of other countries or even its allies.
Are these the same allies who didn't pay attention to our concerns over unilateral UN recognition of the Palestinian Authority?

this will lead to a decrease in US authority on the international scene and perhaps even to isolation.
Not really.

It doesn't look like American "authority" has counted for anything toward peace in the region. How can zero effectiveness be undermined?

The Palestinians have never accepted any proposals from Israel or the US. The two state solution with land give backs has been offered to the Palestinians several times and it is always rejected.

Now Trump whacks them up beside the head. Maybe they'll realize that they need to make a deal before they lose it all.

The GOLAN HEIGHTS were Israel at all time!

There will never be any peace, since there's no one to talk to on the Palestinian side!

lol you know that will never happen, right?

However, perhaps the Palestinian state can be centered on the Gaza Strip, and non-Jewish voters in the West Bank could be allowed to vote in Gazan elections.

Sounds great. At present Jewish residents in the West Bank can vote for the Isreali government, which can arrest people without trial (including the West Bank), destroy farmland, decide who uses which roads, decide who leaves their hometown, decide who can leave the West Bank and can impose curfews. Futhermore Israeli inhabitants of the West Bank who commit acts of violence against their Arab Neighbours will be dealt with with via the Isreali justice system, overseen by a government that they can vote for and their Arab Neighbours can not.

If you want to argue that the occupied territories are De Jure Isreali territory then I wouldn`t entirely disagree because De Facto they are allready treated as such in every meaningful sence. But if this is the case we need to accept that Israel`s regime is one that extends full civil rights to some of those it rules over on the basis of race and religion and imposes a state of subjugation on others based on the same criteria, and no regime of this type should be allowed to exist in the 21st century.
