LONDON — Despite being a NATO ally, Turkey has vowed to target opponents of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on foreign soil, including in the United States. The threat comes amid diplomatic tensions over Americans jailed in Turkey and the arrest or abduction of dozens of Turkish citizens in almost 20 countries. Erdogan spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization would launch overseas “operations” against supporters of Fethullah Gulen, an elderly cleric who lives in exile in Pennsylvania. “They will feel Turkey breathing down their neck,” Kalin told reporters in Ankara. Turkey has repeatedly pressed the White House to extradite Gulen, while officials are working inside other countries to detain and remove his followers. “Relevant units and institutions will continue their operations in countries where FETO operates, whether in the U.S. or another country,” Kalin said. “The Turkish Republic will not let them rest.” In total, Turkey has admitted detaining at least 80 citizens in 18 countries since it launched a post-coup crackdown so vast in scope that it is building hundreds of extra prisons.

The Turk dictator cares little about international law or national sovereignty.

Remember a few years ago when some people said, "Turkey might join the EU"? I laughed then and I laugh now. Can we officially classify Turkey a ****hole Country?

It is important that Turkey be allowed to follow their political interests where ever they may be...

You mean the nation or the regime? An oppressed people are not a sovereign people. Turkey is not a sovereign nation; it's a sovereign regime.

What happened to Turkey is what is happening here.

This is what happens when right wing nuts come to power.

Erdogan destroyed a beautiful country and one of our great allies.

Yes. Ataturk, the great Turkish leader, turned Turkey from its position as the seat of the Islamic caliphate to one of the first modern secular democracies in the middle east. Erdogan is spitting on his grave. And what's funny is that he does this standing in front of his picture. The irony is shocking. Ataturk would have slapped him upside the head.

"Our object now is to strengthen the ties that bind us to other nations. There may be a great many countries in the world, but there is only one civilization, and if a nation is to achieve progress, she must be a part of this civilization. The Ottoman Empire began to decline the day when, proud of her success against the West, she cut the ties that bound her to the European nations. "
-Ataturk

"In human life, you will find players of religion until the knowledge and proficiency in religion will be cleansed from all superstitions, and will be purified and perfected by the enlightenment of real science. "
-Ataturk

"I have no religion, and at times I wish all religions at the bottom of the sea. He is a weak ruler who needs religion to uphold his government; it is as if he would catch his people in a trap. My people are going to learn the principles of democracy, the dictates of truth and the teachings of science. Superstition must go. Let them worship as they will; every man can follow his own conscience, provided it does not interfere with sane reason or bid him against the liberty of his fellow-men."
-Ataturk

Turkey is capable of some great things. It has great potential. But not with a leader like Erdogan.

Semantics...

Not semantics.

Turkey, despite ignorant rhetoric to the contrary, is not a sovereign nation. It's a sovereign regime. If one supports sovereign nations, one must be against the regime.

Anyone that's spent any decent amount of time there, already has. Since Erodgan, it's only gotten monumentally worse.

IMHO, 1) if Turkey were not where they are on the map in relation to Russia and the Middle East, and 2) if the US didn't have actual real nukes there at a US base, and 3) if Turkey were not a full member of NATO, the US would have walked away from Turkey a long time ago, and would have done a hell of a lot more to help the Kurds and to help anyone and everyone that wanted to overthrow Erdogan.

I find that funny.... I actually think this is exactly what happends when Left Wing nuts come to power... We descend into authoritarian Chaos.

Then you need to do some reading.

This is not opinion based.

to the uneducated, sure

Yep, that is me, "uneducated"...

You know what an educated person would do that wanted to win a debate? They would debate.

See here? He countered with an argument...

That is fine, although it is semantics. I said Turkey and by that I mean the government/leadership... but even then my point was more that it is irrelevant and that your comment that is really a Red Herring...

You support regimes over nations. Noted.

That I am laughing at your assertion? Well played Sir!

No, what is required is that I conduct class for a obstinate child and I won't do that.

Try my uneducated ass... I bet I run linguistic circles around you with ease.

I responded to what you wrote, that you are uneducated. I agreed that it appears as such from my vantage point.

Of course you would.

Jeez bud... is this really how you want to portray yourself?

Of course you would.

About you?

;)

If it will help...

... now, regarding regimes, the Turkish one should be free to pursue their goals wherever they might transcend.

No, the nation should. And a regime that restricts national sovereignty in such a manner should be overthrown by any means.
