President Trump called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday to congratulate him on his election victory last weekend, Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency said. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday said that a call was being set up between the two leaders to "reaffirm" the "strong bond" between the U.S. and Turkey. Erdoğan has stirred concerns among some NATO members by nudging Turkey closer to Russia. Ankara recently purchased an S-400 surface-to-air missile battery from Moscow and is working with Russia on a nuclear power plant in Turkey.

Erdogan is a dictator who ruthlessly rules Turkey by emergency decree. The recent election was a farce and highly criticized by international monitors. More journalists are imprisoned in Turkey than in any other country. Last year Erdogan invaded the Syrian (Rojava) homeland of the Kurds that have been fighting ISIS on the ground with US forces since 2014. Donald Trump stabbed them in the back to be pals with Erdogan. In Syria, Turkey has aligned with the Assad government, Russia, and Iran. Turkey allowed tens of thousands of ISIS recruits to transit its territory, and allowed its Mediterranean ports to facilitate the sale of ISIS oil. Turkey is now purchasing Russian weapons systems which are not compatible with NATO systems and may allow Russia to steal info on US military aircraft. Congress is trying to block Trumps determination to export F-35 jets to the Erdogan regime.

Trump is chummy with many in the Dictators Club ... Putin, Erdogan, al-Sisi, Dutarte, and Kim Jong-un.

I don't care for Erdogan, but that's what elected leaders do - the congratulate other leaders on their election victories.

Suppose Trump and his dictator worship comes in handy occasionally, we need Erdogan onside, it's a dirty job and Trump loves doing it

Erdogan ... is rapidly becoming a liability. I would strongly recommend removing any US nuclear warheads from Incirlik AFB asap.

This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for:

1) The fact that the elections were rigged for him and the ultranationalists to seize power.
2) The fact that he is consolidating power in an increasingly totalitarian manner.
3) The fact that Turkey has imprisoned more journalists than anywhere else and the opposition is being targeted politically and otherwise.
4) The fact that Turkey is acting like a spearhead being driven into the heart of NATO, the primary alliance of the U.S..
5) The fact that Turkey is antagonizing and violating the air space of Greece, another primary ally of the U.S. (not to mention the two Greek soldiers still imprisoned in Turkey).
6) The fact that the Turkish State's campaign against the Kurds is bordering on ethno-nationalism and ethnic cleansing (see "Lebensraum" to get the picture)
7) Turkey's purchase of Russian S-400 multiple-launch rocket-systems.

And most importantly, this is the same government that beat up Kurdish-American protesters on American soil.
Trump is far more than a disgrace, he's a threat.
