A team from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons -- OPCW -- visited a site in Douma, Syria, on Saturday "to collect samples for analysis" in connection with an alleged chemical weapons attack that prompted a retaliatory missile strike by the U.S., U.K. and France last weekend. The OPCW announced the visit in a statement, saying it "will evaluate the situation and consider future steps including another possible visit to Douma."

Note: The United Nations-OPCW Joint Investigative Mechanism that was put in place following the Assad government sarin attack in the city of Ghouta on 21 August 2013, ended in November 2017 after Russia repeatedly blocked attempts at renewing it. Douma is a major city of the region known as Ghouta.

This thread can act as a date marker. The Douma gassing took place on 7 April 2018 as Assad forces are in Douma and engaged in mopping up operations against the last remnants of rebels. The Assad military allows the rebels to leave Douma in buses on 8 April 2018. Russian military police (and other Russians) arrive in Douma on 12 April 2018. The UN/OPCW arrives in Damascus on 12 April 2018. The UN/OPCW is refused entry in Douma by Syrian forces on 14 April 2018. The UN/OPCW, trying to enter Douma every day since 14 April, is shot at by an unknown person on 19 April 2018 and entry is denied. Entry is again denied on 20 April 2018. UN/OPCW investigators finally are able to enter Douma on 21 April 2018 ... a full 14 days after the gas attack. Syrian forces have been in the city since 4 April 2018, Russian forces since 12, April. At this point, Syrian/Russian forces have had 14 days to fully sanitize the gassing site and disseminate a specific narrative to the locals. The most current narrative is that the White Helmets (First Responders) staged the gassing attack.....

Can a urban area like that even be scrub clean? I think if they really wanted to find the gas toxin (assuming it did happen) that they could find it on the outsides of buildings and in cracks in the walls.

Depends on the agent, the method of decon and if they can spirit the waste water and dirt away.
