Turkish self-propelled guns firing into the Syrian Kurdish canton of Afrin within the Kurdish Rojava homeland of northern Syria

Turkey’s army said on Saturday it hit shelters and hideouts used by militants from three groups - the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), PYD and YPG, after militants fired on Turkish positions inside Turkey. “We will destroy the terror corridor gradually as we did in Jarabulus and El-bab operations, starting from the west. Afrin operation has de-facto started in the field. Manbij [Kobane canton) will follow,” Erdogan said. Erdogan has repeatedly said he would crush the Syrian Kurdish militia in Afrin, which he views as a security threat to Turkey. Direct military action against territory held by Kurdish militia opens a new front in Syria’s civil war and sees Ankara confronting Kurds allied to the United States at a time when Turkey’s relations with Washington are reaching breaking point. The U.S. State Department called on Turkey to focus on the fight against Islamic State militants and described Turkish activity in Afrin as destabilizing. Defence Minister Nurettin Canikli said on Friday that Turkey’s operation in the region had started with cross-border shelling, but no troops have gone into Afrin.

Erdogan is lying. The Syrian Kurdish YPG/YPJ (male/female) militias are allied with US forces in Syrian. Not with Kurdish PKK terrorists within Turkey proper. Together since 2014, US/YPG/YPJ forces have destroyed all ISIS strongholds in northern and central Syria. Frankly, Erdogan views all Kurds (Turkey/Syria/Iraq) as terrorists and an ethnicity to be cleansed/destroyed. This is the same Erdogan who allowed Islamists from all over the globe safe passage through Turkey to join ISIS and facilitated the sale of ISIS oil. Erdogan security guards also attacked and beat US protesters on 17 May 2017 during Erdogan’s last state visit to the US. Erdodan's Turkey is no friend of the US or her allies.

My concern is that a member of the UN is engaging in military actions in another UN state without express permission. I guess they're too busy plotting their next anti-semetic resolution to bother with important issues like the violations of national sovereignty.

This is all happening in Syrian land. What is the US doing there? Why is the US there? The Kurds are being played by the US and would be secure under Assad, but devastation is likely if they choose to ally with a foreign Nation like the US. We have no UN authorization to be there. The US is an occupying force inhibiting a solution to stabilization of Syria. I can see Sryia, Turkey and Iraq allying to solve this problem. There seem to be large numbers of ISIS from Dier ezZor and Raqqa in the Eastern region of this alleged "Kurdistan." Why is that?

C'mon Fagan, plz try to keep up....

I do keep up. US forces helicopters evacuated ISIS leadership from Deir ezZor to Where? The USA allowed thousands of ISIS to leave Raqqa WITH their weapons. Since ISIS is done and the US was allegedly in Syria to stomp ISIS, then why are we still there? C'mon Rogue, try to keep up.

Though the administration isn't doing this intentionally, it's one of the first steps to give the Kurds a Homeland. They've been reliable allies in Iraq as in Syria. We should facilitate that. As in Iraq, why should we care if Syria breaks up? In Korea, when we broke them up, we got the best deal we could, which was half a country. A little bit of a country is a whole lot better than none at all.
