Step one: The United States nukes a country
Step two: Following the Cuban missile crisis, on the initiative of the U.S, most of the world signs the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), agreeing that
(A)those with nuclear weapons reduce their stockpiles with a few to eventually phasing them out altogether
(B) Nuclear weapons states do not assist non-nuclear states in attaining weapons and push those outside the treaty into membership
(C) Non-nuclear states are free to develop peaceful nuclear energy under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Authority.
Step Three: The U.S does none of those things, stockpiles increase, Israel is placed under no pressure to sign the treaty, and India enjoys assistance from the Bush presidency in its nuclear weapons program.
Step 4: After years of threats and tensions Iran is eventually pushed into agreeing to inspections and controls of its nuclear energy that go above and beyond those stipulated in the NPT.
Step 5: Americans somehow feel they are getting the raw end of the deal. Which naturally begs the question; Why complain when you have got away with a deal that no other country on earth could get away with?
