A series of assassinations has taken place in Turkey of men from the countries of the former USSR. There's evidence that some were carried out by killers from Russia, writes Murad Batal Shishani - including, in one case, names, photographs and a memory stick carelessly left behind for Turkish police to study. I worry when so many world leaders and would be leaders say they "admire" Putin, Meddling around in other countries' elections, killing off dissidents around the world - is this the country (Russia) whose leaders we should admire?

Thoughts?

I can't believe one country sent in an elite unit of individuals to kill a known terrorist in another sovereign country!

I can safely say that if our government ever did something like that, terrorist sympathizers would be outraged!

Putin is smart and he can and does get things done, which puts him head and shoulders above the vast majority of global elites.

That earns him respect even with those who dont like how cruel he can be.

Or dont want Team China/Russia/Iran to be successful.

It's been rather interesting to say the least, sitting back watching the right wing falling over themselves to praise and embrace the KGB thug in the last few years whilst turning a blind eye to his clear and very obvious agenda to diminish America’s influence in the world and belittle her leader. Putin is laughing his ass off at Americans.

No admiration from me, can't stand liars and assholes so obviously can't stand him.

I severely doubt that we would hit Snowden or that Assange person. If someone were actually planing and organizing explosions in American or German cities and was living in an area of little rule of law, I would hope that he was taken out.

I think it pretty dangerous to our all well being. It is certainly a point in the absolutely wrong direction, if we want to avoid a nuclear war in this century.

Why is there a swastika in the background?

Putin is a thug dictator in all but name. There is no equivalence to democratically elected leaders.

That's OK...there's a new sheriff in town. ;)

You have no clue how he relates to Putin...just some leftist butthurt rhetoric.

Uneducated folks ignore evidence and common sense. It also passes the duck test.

Excessive amounts of Kool Aid intake will kill that reality burn for you.

Ever see them together?

Probably a taunt but it also speaks to a lot of the thugs who operate in the security forces. Ironic that the swastikas were supposedly on Ukrainian forces who fought pro Russian rebels in Ukraine last year.

Wait till the Russia Football World Cup - you'll be seeing a lot more of them in the news reports.

The elimination of Islamist leaders on foreign soil and death of gang members (which quite possibly were assassinated by other gang members is) =/= "killing dissidents around the world", the fact that the article tried to mix in Politkovskaya's case into this all makes it even more ridiculous. Mixing a bunch of unrelated things and adding some uniquely sinister motives to security measures that are practiced by various countries all over the world seems to be a very common recipe when it comes to producing Russia related news items and articles.

Fallen.

Russia has had hitmen all over. I am sure the U.S. has as well.

Putin is known for tracking down enemies and having them eliminated. Much easier to do in Turkey and the killings may have originated with his present stooge running Chechnya.

And doing it well it appears. A lot of people think or at least suspect that he has been able to assassinate in DC and London, like we suspect he did it but we can never prove anything, because his people do it right. Putin's response to Obama re hacking today...."PROVE IT".... was interesting in this context.

In 2012 Romney stated Putin was a major threat. That was then seen as grossly in error. After the Ukraine, annexation of Crimea and Syria the Republicans lauded Romney as being on the money.
Accolade after accolade was made by many Republicans as to his insight on FP and Russia.

Now with Russia clearly interfering with the US Pres election, and Trump slamming the numerous Intelligence series as wrong, seems many on the right, on this board disbelieve any US intelligence reports on Russian interference.

Reason why – Trump – he slammed the intelligence without reviewing it.
If Trump continues in that manner of denigrating and insulting all US Intelligence Agencies methinks there will be more blunders in FP to come.

But the Trump Acolytes believe him. That is freaking scary.
