    How are you?
  2. Thanks a lot for that article. I'm definitely glad that you shared it with me, particularly since it put into words some of the thoughts/feelings I've had about this issue. It's points about the generation gap sort of put a new light on some of the conflicts I've had with other people on it. I'd never thought about those clashes in terms of generation differences, but it actually makes a lot of sense. It also had a lot of just general info that I wasn't aware of in addition to the perspective of someone who sees what I see in terms of how rhetoric about Israel is directed. So thanks again. I love when people share stuff like this with me.

Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.
