Couch potato extraordinaire. I offer points of view in search of views that might either surpass and change my own, or reaffirm my own. I let ( or strive to let ) the chips fall where they may. I believe that omewhere between two extremes is the truth, and by reasoned debate and civil discourse, we are better able to find it. I also use this forum to test a view which necessarily may not be my own, but one I'm considering, in order to hear counter arguments I can use to help me decide whether or not to adopt it as my own.
Note: "Oscar Levant" a celebrity in his time, is my avatar, for obviously I am not the famous Oscar Levant (RIP) whose image and moniker I am using, he is just someone I admire. Though I'm no where near as accomplished, I am a pianist, like Oscar, and admire his wit, and empathize with his faults, for how can anyone who is intelligent, keenly aware of humanity, not be depressed at the sight of the folly of man? Surely, cynicism and depression is often the price of awareness and intellect. I admire Levant who often made fun of himself, alas, humility plus intelligence and wit is a rare quality. Another fave of mine is Gore Vidal.
