This incredible theater show has now finished performing in Europe to critical acclaim and is coming to 50 cities in North America. The Simon & Garfunkel Story takes audiences through their meteoric rise as celebrated music makers. From their humble beginnings right through their worldwide successes and bitter breakup, culminating with a stunning re-creation of their 1981 Central Park reformation concert, The Simon & Garfunkel Story relives the moments that justified their ten Grammy Awards and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Paul Simon (Taylor Bloom), Art Garfunkel (Benjamin Cooley), and the 8 piece band nail it.

You know you've made it when Leonard Cohen recites your song lyrics in poetic form, live and on stage.

Not to deny their accomplishments, but their beginnings were not hardly humble. Both came from upper middle-class families living in Forest Hills Queens NY. Then a neighborhood of stately homes in Forest Gardens, a restricted upper class enclave designed by Russell Sage, and pre-WII luxury apartment buildings with doormen, and fireplaces, marble lobbies. Both were expected to achieve by their families, either as professionals or in the business world and both were in the top of their classes at Forest Hills High School, a school well known for its awards, and successful alumni. That both moved in the world of music, considered an aberration, is remarkable, and their success far beyond expectations and the achievements of their peers. We all got lucky. :)

When I was a very young teenager, listening to R&R, R&B, Doo Wop with my friends, we laughed at the lameness of "Parsley and Sage." The joke was on us. They got the girls, we didn't.

Humble in the music sales sense. They were going nowhere fast until Columbia Records staff producer Tom Wilson took the acoustic "Sound Of Silence" single found on the "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." 1965 album and without Simon and Garfunkel's knowledge, dubbed in two electric guitars, electric bass, and drums. He renamed this version "Sounds Of Silence" and sent it to DJ's in the Boston/Florida markets. This demo record took off and Simon and Garfunkel were on their way. A new overdubbed album was rushed out entitled "Sounds of Silence" (1966) which also included their overdubbed second hit record "I Am A Rock" (originally another acoustic song borrowed from "The Paul Simon Songbook" album of 1965). IIRC, session musician Joe Mack (Joe Macho/RIP 1977) was the Fender bassist on the new overdubbed S&G album. Before moving to New York and Columbia studios, Joe lived in Philly and was a member of the superb house band at Cameo-Parkway Records.

Love Simon & Garfunkel, so many great songs.
