It was a Cannon Pixma that only lasted a couple years. I looked at reviews, nothing really stood out as a good cheap printer. Lots of complaints.

Any ideas?

Shouldn't this be in Breaking News - non MSM?

Our HP4 went through tens of thousands of documents in an office. It was then relegated to a home environment for a few thousand more jobs. Then to a starving college student for two years of printing for an English major. The drum was finally giving out when it was left in an impounded Camry.

Go laser for everyday black and white. You won't regret it.

What do you want to use it for?

If for printing photos, I've always found Epsons to give the best results.

RIP

never forget

The usual, printing recipes, scanning annoying documents, and printing the occasional picture of a cat or a niece. We could give up pictures.

sorry for your loss ................... as Bill Clinton said, "I feel your pain" ................

Don't look at the reviews for cheap HP printers, lots of complaints.

We are considering lasers, but the cheap ones don't scan, and that we do need.

HP used to the god of printers, I imagine the expensive ones are still good.

If you don't need the color my Brother HL-L23xxDW series laser printer has been excellent, going on 5 years now. Under $100.

The one and only time I switched from HP I had problems. Went back as I never had issues with HP.

Depends what you want.

Print words aka black and white.. get a laser printer. Wayyyy cheaper than ink (and faster).

Print colour and pictures, get a non cheap ink jet printer or an expensive(ish) colour laser printer.

Just remember when buying a printer.. any make. Check prices for refill cartridges/toner.. That should be your guideline, not what make or even price.

I don't know what you consider inexpensive, but if ~$180 is it, you may want to try a color laser. There are, of course, even less pricey color lasers on the market. I'm no color laser expert; I use one that's "ancient," but for as infrequently as I print anything (a few times a year), it's fine. Of the one's found at the previous link, I'd go with this one: Lexmark.

ETA:
If it matters, Lexmark is an American company and their products are available at Walmart, New Egg and various web retailers. I know of their enterprise-grade goods. A good deal of that technology makes it way to their consumer lines.

What's wrong with it? I used to repair printers.
