Mountain bike rebuild
My liberal pal gave me a Fugi Mountain bike he bought second hand for 500$, it was a retired police bike that was 700$ new. He no longer rides after a hip replacement. It was a large frame, I have a Surly troll frame that I have not used in years, I paid 500 new for it and it is a small frame (not shorter wheelbase but a lower top tube, not as easy to rack the jewels)

After disassembly, all components got a degreasing and lube. Rebuilt the Fugi bike on the better frame and upgraded further with some other high end components I had sitting idle. It rides like a brand new bike, perfect brakes, shifting. I usually ride my Cadillac long bike as it is so comfortable and can carry WAY more cargo than a regular bike, but it would be criminal not to take such a quality bike out to ride.

If you have ever rode a 700$ mountain bike in perfect tune, it is night and day between a 150$ Wal mart bike. Here is a pic of the build and the original Fugi frame (disassembled) note how large it is compared to the orange frame.

Still, my biggest love is my homebuilt recumbent. WIN_20180403_18_24_08_Pro.jpgWIN_20180403_18_24_25_Pro.jpgP1010031.jpg

God Speed Friend

Started the build yesterday afternoon, finished up today. Yesterday, switched out the fork and headset, installed wheels and a crankset. Today was brakes and the rear derailer, chain, handlebar and neck and get it all in tune. When I told a couple friends I was planning on switching frames, they said "don't do that, you will ruin a good bike" Huhh....oh yea all of little faith. If there is one thing I excel at, it is bike fabrication and mechanics. I cant stand hearing a cyclist go down the road with a sqeeking bike, "dude, ever hear of lube"?

People that ride cheap wally world bikes just throw it away and buy a new one, not me. If I hear the slightest noise from my bike, as soon as I get home, I track it down and fix it. If it cant be fixed, new parts are ordered.

You Sir are a man of quality, I knew that from the jump.

A cheap bike in poor maintenance is not safe or enjoyable to ride, especially at decent speeds. Also it is not efficiant and many would be cyclist think that biking sucks and never pursue it. I have been a transportational and recreational cyclist my entire lifetime, never drove regularly. I suppose I soon will as my home situation could use a vehicle and my Father is getting ready to buy a new truck and wants me to have his old (but still nice F150) Now I too can enjoy the sedentary lifestyle and expenses associated with driving a vehicle.
