Aurora police mistakenly think SUV is stolen motorcycle

Seeing the kids freak out like that so badly made me immediately think that they have been brainwashed by the parents and that the mom driving the car hyped them unnecessarily as they were getting pulled over.

Ever have a policeman come at you with his gun pulled when you were 6 years old? Then you see your sisters handcuffed and you are laid down on your stomach on the pavement.

Nah, they weren't hyped up, they were just frighten kids.

I disagree...

I want to know why the 12 year old was handcuffed and not the 14 year old. Was that just due to the officers who handled the situation differently or were other factors an issue?

Also, the 6 year old didn't have a sister there, rather her cousins and an aunt.

Did you even bother to read it? They got an identical number mix up.

The stolen one was a motorcycle plate from another state that matched the one on the SUV.

1. the plates were from another state, not the state of which the motorcycle was stolen from.

2. you should at least be aware that the item stolen is a motorcycle, not an SUV

3. the positioning of the people while doing the check if it is indeed the vehicle, young children/teenagers is ridiculous

No confusion at all...

The size of the plate and whether it was on a motorcycle or not is 100% IRRELEVANT.

They ran a plate NUMBER and the NUMBER came up as stolen.

I was gonna diss the cops for a lack of cognitive skills, when, come to find out, the system where they ran the number is severely lacking in programed skills. It looks like stupid to me.

Sure,,, but they did not mistake an SUV for a motorcycle...

It most certainly was not a motorcycle, what are they called? Multi person vehicle?

And who forces a 6 year old to lie on her stomach for about 15 minutes with armed officers hovering over them that just pulled them out at gunpoint.

But we should definitely defund the police. Who needs the best and the brightest, when we can get by paying for Mcdonald's assistant manager material?

You realize these **** cops are what we have now right? We aren’t exactly getting what we are paying for.

We're getting exactly what we're paying for: not much. Paying even less will just make the problem worse.

If they are this **** with how much we spend on police, then they aren’t going to to get better. Might as well defund them and put that money where it might do some good than acting as a jobs program for unemployed former high school quarterbacks with chips on their shoulders.

No cop thought that an SUV was a motorcycle...

BOLO’s also include pertinent information like MAKE AND MODEL as well as the license plate. Were these cops just too stupid to not look at those parts of the BOLO?

Strange, I never heard a "defund the police" proponent argue that paying teachers more wouldn't yield better results. I don't know why anyone would think it would be different for cops. Of course more money will give better results. If you pay more, you'll attract higher caliber candidates than "unemployed former high school quarterbacks with chips on their shoulders."

There are also ways we can get better results with the same budgets:

1. End the war on drugs, so we can focus resources more on fighting violent crime, including recruiting a smaller number of higher caliber cops.
2. Use technology, rather than cops sitting in cars at the bottom of hills, to enforce speed limits and other traffic laws.
3. Keep violent criminals in jail longer, so our cops aren't overwhelmed inevitably rounding half of them up again 3 months after they are released.
